Default I can't talk from experience

but with 3.73's when racing someone, or driving down the street I rarely hit 5th gear, especially in a 1/4.

the idea behind 6 gears isnt to hit 6th gear while your racing, its to be able to run a high gear ratio, like 4.10s and use 6th gear on the highway for cruising, keeping your engine rpms lower for cruise.

Exactly!!!

If you plan on getting a 6 speed, I might even consider 4.30's.

Default Thanks for clearing that up

Obviously I am still learning so don't be too rough, but thanks for clearing that up. I learn a lot of stuff from this site. Take care, Keith

Default 4.10's rock

I'm very happy with the 4.10's, and I can't wait to get the manual tranny in there to have more fun with it.

So the next question, suggestions for the tranny? I've heard quite a bit about Tremmec. Anyone suggest any specific 5 or 6 speed transmissions?

Regards,
Justin

Default AOD

I've never liked automatic transmissions in a vehicle. I have more fun with a manual tranny. I know I could build the AOD to smoke most manual cars, but that's not what I'd enjoy. For my personal enjoyment I'd rather have a manual car.

Is top end really that messed up with the 4.10 ratio? Would I be happier with the 3.73's? Would I still be getting my butt kicked off the line?

Justin
I say go with 3.73's or 4.10's...both great gears.....Keep AOD man, they are underated. Put a stall and valvebody in it and you will be pleased

If you are interested in a 6speed, pay close attention to all the ratio's. All 6 speeds available for the mustang, except for the Viper T-56 have a 6th gear in the .62-.68 range which is the same as the 5spds available. All they are good for is the .8 5th gear which still gives you some drive in the 1/4 with a tall gear. These tranny's are not very good for running over a 3.73 on the highway. But the Viper T-56 has a .50 6th gear! That will allow you to turn low rpm's with 4.56:1 gears in 6th!

Default STOLEN!

Well, I no longer have to decide on a tranny. The car was stolen this morning.

Cool

I hope you get your car back in good condition. If you do, email me and I will tell you how to wire it so it cannot be driven away. If they tow it, it is still theirs. You can consider explosives, but you will see jail time........(I heard of a guy who wired in a 1/2 stick of dynomite to each of his Jag E's doors, blew the thief three lanes into a 4 lane highway! He did go to jail, and the purp lived and sued him. Gotta love America.

Just put some NRA stickers on the car next time, with this car protected by smith & wesson. It does send a message.

Lottsa luck.

I know exactly who did it and where the car is, but I can't do a damn thing about it until the courts do something. I bought it from a friend, we were waiting for the title so I didn't sign anything (thought it was okay cause he was a friend...) He screwed me hard...

I put another post on this board somewhere about it... :\

I've held my temper so far. Let's see if the courts pull through. I should have enough evidence against this prick.
