Hey, does anyone own a lighting...i have a few questions about this car. Are there back seats cause i cant see any in the pictures. Also what cars can the lighting beat when it's stock and what some times they run?

Hey man the Lightning is a Truck not a car. It is a 5.4 litre supercharged v-8. Rated at 380 hp. And no there is no Back seats.

The F-150 Lightnings are running mid 13's stock. Fast enough to beat just about anything on the road.

hmmm, lets compare the Lightning to the Vette
Lightning: mid-low 13's stock, 12's obtainable VERY easily Corvette: mid-low 13's stock, expensive to modify Lightning: driver + 2 passengers comfortably Corvette: driver + 1 passenger Lightning: haul a load of mulch from the store Corvette: haul a handbag from the mall Lightning: ~$32,000 Corvette: ~$40,000-50,000 Lightning: easily my choice Corvette: choice of rich guys with a need for a chick magnet I know you asked nothing about comparing the two vehicles, but I like to do so because the Lightning is such an awesome truck and all around (fun, usefullness, power) IMO nothing can compete with it

OK, you can't compare a car to a truck. A new ZO6 will spank a modded Lightning, will WAY outhandle, and outstop it. Not even in the same ballpark. It's a fast truck, which for the money, I'd rather have an SVT Cobra.

I never compared the Lightning to a Z06. Just the normal vette
and no a Z06 won't spank a Modded lightning, a decently modded lightning can run very low 12's and whats a Z06 run? like mid 12's. Even mid 12's isn't considered spanking a low 13 second STOCK lightning. I know it had nothing to do with the subject, but I just thought I would compare the truck he is asking about to a very respectable sports car, and IMO (thats MY opinion, not YOURS) the Lightning is a much better vehicle for the money

SVO Lightning
ghostfacedriver:
Dan McClain - owner and founder of Mustang Works Online - owns a beautiful, bright red Roush-built 1999/2000 Lightning with a full Bassani exhaust system. He might have some information you could use. I suggest you send him a PM. (Private Mail) 'Car and Driver' - not exactly a muscle-car magazine - tested a 2001 SVO Lightning and ran a 13.8 in the quarter-mile. A real driver (these Car and Driver guys are all over 40 and drool over anything foreign) could probably see mid-13's. I'm sure Dan McClain's Lightning could do easy mid-13's, too. This on a heavy truck with an automatic transmission! Not too shabby for stock. |

After I pay off my Cobra I'm gunna sell it. I'll most likely get a Lightning instead. Just add a shift kit, chip, upper and lower pullies, and exhaust will put it into the high 12's 12.88 to be exact. And thats with ~ 400rwhp! I'd be beating stock Corvette's, Camaros and Vipers! :-D

1) moc, dude, that's a sweet ride you got.
2) i've seen the referance(sp?) to a superchip a few times. now i've been told it helps next to nothing, and from what i've seen in here it helps a great deal. i need to know once and for all, performance chip: good or bad.....

The Lightning is definetly tops on my list if I was to buy a truck.
However, here's specs that SVT has up for it as well as Motorcity, Autochannel, SVT/SHO pages, etc, etc, etc: Factory Specifications Engine: Triton V8 Horsepower: 380 bhp @ 4750 rpm Torque: 450 lb-ft @ 3250 rpm 0-60 mph: 5.8 sec 1/4 Mile: 13.9 sec Top Speed: 142 mph Fuel Efficiency: 13/17 mpg Transmission: 4 spd auto Brakes: ABS That is definetly slower than a Corvette Z06. They are in completely different classes. You can't really compare them. Oh yeah, that 13.9 is the fastest stock time I found. I saw many low 14s being run with the stock Lightning. Vette is definetly faster. However for a truck the Lightning is God! |

once again I NEVER compared it to a Z06, just the normal vette
by the way, MM&FF tested the 01 lightning and got a 13.4 in warm weather the first time they drove it

I don't care either... its like comparing apples to oranges.
Get one... it definetly is like having the best of both worlds... enough power to blow away most cars and enough space to move a fair amount of stuff and be practical! Just might be a little drain on the pocketbook as a running cost since it likes to *chug* *chug* *chug* Quote:

If it was purely a real life situation, I'd pick the SVT Lightning WAY over a Z06.
