Unhappy No Heat...

My heater has never put out good heat, from the day I got the car. Last winter I replaced the heater core and that didn't help. I replaced all the lines and checked for blockages, but couldn't find any. I am running a 180* thermostat but my engine temp never comes above 165* when its cool out. I installed an Autometer Temp Gauge to check, but the temp is rock solid @ 165* I don't normally dive the car in the winter, but the weather has been good around here, except its been really cold, and I would like some heat for the early Spring cruises and next Fall. Anyone have any Ideas? I am fresh out.

Steve

I'd put a 195 thermo in it and maybe switch back to the 180 if it gets too hot in the summer (should be ok though)

another thing to try is to get an electric fan with a manual toggle switch in the car that you can turn on and off as you like
this way you can leave the fan off and the motor will get warmer and should make your heat warmer too

hope this helps, good luck

Hi Steve,

You might want to try a different thermostat, those things are notorious for being out of whack. Another thing to try is underdriving the water pump. A bonus to that is that it frees up some horsepower as well. (not a lot though ).
