Re: hot at idle
Is the fan close to the radiator?? It should be pretty close to the core.
Where is the timing?? Too late will run hotter. Thermostat or restrictor plate?? What are you reading the temp. with?? Direct reading gauge--Good, electric gauge--Bad. You may have to go electric....sorry to tell you that. Old Mustangs ran Hot at idle when they were new.

Re: hot at idle
so close you cant get the fan out without pulling the rad first. 1/2". max. initial is 8 adv. tried different therms so i took the gutts outta one and used as restrictor. i stick a thermometer in the rad with the cap off and watcher rise! jack the rpm and she cools. ive heard the 4 speeds didnt over heat in traffic. this is really getting annoying.
also when i used the car as a driver, in say 98' i yanked a fan off a 90's bmw and hooked it to a toggle. it worked but as i say i didnt wanna go there. ive since lost that fan, and ive got a cooler for trans. i imagine we've got fans with thermostats now, so i dont have to hit any switches. Re: hot at idle
Sounds like you have everything hooked up the way it should be. Same things I would of done.
Well.....leaves the electric fan route. Working at staying dry here in Florida.....

Re: hot at idle
Try a fan shroud?
I used to hate watching that darn thing cook while sitting there, helpless... you just turn on the heat and roast. |

Re: hot at idle
If you dont have the shroud, give that a try. If not, I can post pics of my electric setup, no switches, the controller turns itself on....anywhere from something like 30 percent power all the way to 100 percent on high...pretty reasonable setup-since it was partly a junk yard swap. Also easier on alternators.
