Blew my motor!
Last Friday night I was cruising around town. I had stopped at home for a few minutes and was going to go out again. As soon as I started the motor, I threw a rod.
Let my Mustang Cobra rest in peace! I now need to save up some money to rebuild the bottom end and then sell the car. I can't afford this crap anymore! Two engines in 3.5 years is no fun! But hey at least I got 40,000 miles out of a built supercharged daily driver. If anyone knows a good shop in the Bay Area (besides Apex) that has a good price, please let me know.

Well the guy that built the motor was a real shady character. He put in the wrong cam (E-303 instead of a split duration cam), put on a REAL old set of ported GT-40's instead of porting mine. He stole my 1.7 roller rockers and put the 1.5 stamped steel rockers on there. He even stole my block for 2 months cause he spent all the money I gave him for the rebuild.
I'm actually suprised the motor ran as long as it did.

Dang, man. Sorry bout that. That utterly sucks. I hear you about the money thing. I'm still not 100% sure I wanna build mine considering how much money I will put into it (which I already have, but not sure if I need to spend that money on that just yet).
Hope you get things worked out...

Sorry to hear about the carnage... and the shady mechanic business is uncalled for. I'd have a fist to nose conversation with that joker, forget about a lawyer. That's uncalled for!
Hope things work out for the better and enable you to keep your Cobra... even if you put it back to stock, it's worth keeping, IMHO. Later, -Ryan |

Damn Scott, that does suck! i'm sorry to hear that kind of news from anyone, but especially from a good friend. hey, here's an idea, maybe you could design an anti-ricer sticker, and sell it online! You could make enough money to buy a new engine!
Okay, not that funny, but I know you smiled. Take care, ~Chris

So sorry Scott! I remember when i first came here years ago yours was one of the first cars i downloaded and it helped get me hooked on forced induction. I must have seen that video of your awsome drive by onto the highway a million times. I just hope you can find a way to work every thing out and keep the car you know you love. All my luck with sorting out this situation. P.S.- Time to put some foot to ***** with that mechanic. Good luck, Jonathan

i thought you had gotten that rebuilt not long ago. i remember all the posts complaining about the loser who did the work.
i don't think this is a selling offense, though, really. it's not necessarily the car's fault. i would personally get a good bottom end or rebuild yours, and continue to run it. and, 40k actually seems a little short to me, doesn't it? i figured that tuned properly a 5.0 would last a hell of a lot longer than that. oh well and i'd talk to that mechanic, like everyone else says. might be too late, but if you've got any kind of proof of his shady activity, i'd call a lawyer.

Sorry to hear about that, I wouldn't sell it, but rather build a reliable bottom end. It's hard to find someone who is up to the task of doing something right. I build my own, and haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood) but I know what goes on during the process.
These motors are too tough to blow that easily, even with forced induction (unless there is a tuning problem). Anyways sorry to hear that, and re-think selling it. Jason

That sucks Scott! I almost got taken in by a local engine builder but decided to go with Keith Craft. A few monthes after my engine was built I heard the horror stories about the local engine guru leaving town with alot of unfinished engines and even engines with different pistons in them, no kidding. There are people looking for this guy now.. his first name is Graham.. I can't remember his last name. Everyone was recommending him but after I talked with him personally, I just walked out. Funny thing is that some of the people that were taken by this ******* where the same ones laughing at me for walking out on him. Good luck with the car, just get a 'good' motor built... its cheaper than a new car, thats how I look at it anyhow.

Sorry to hear that. I, like many others, loved watching video of your car. It may be too late to do much to the mechanic, but you can always check. It may be more of a headache than what it is worth though......good luck with whatever you decide.
