Default 2007 Mustang Shelby GT500 Pricing Released

The Shelby price list has been released. The coupe version of the car will be $40,930... which is a little less than originally anticipated.

Also, see our 2007 Shelby review page here:

But the dealers are already charging a hefty sir charge above list to even order one. With the small number to be released, that will in all likelyhood continue. I've heard that the going price is more like $60,000 to actually get one.

Right now dealers are taking advantage of the rush to get one of the first ones... wait six months and I'll bet you'll find them sitting on the show room floor. The same thing happened when the 2003 Cobra was released.

Ford will be produce 7500 Shelby's a year. The production numbers will (eventually) allow you to order one to your own specifications, at MSRP or less.

Same thing happened with the Mach 1's too. I'm not sure how the dealers plan on enforcing a markup with production slated at 7500. I'm also not sure that Ford has chosen a good production number. It's going to be VERY hard to move that many overpriced Mustangs.

Expect at least a $10k markup, more likely to be around $15k. Hell, when the newest abomination of a thunderbird came out, they had a $15k markup on them.

$40,000 for the new GT-500 doesn't seem too unreasonable to me for what you actually get. There isn't anything else in that price range that actually competes that I know of. Why can't Ford just guarantee enough of them available at the due date to keep their greedy dealers from screwing up the new iteration of this car?

I agree it's a little too heavy, but Ford has done a lot to adrress that problem with suspension tweaks and plenty of power from that 5.3 DOHC supercharged engine. Why not just make it available in ample numbers and let the buying public vote with the pocketbook? Ford might be pleasantly surprised for once in a long, long time.

Yeah it would just be nice if the car dealers didn't try to screw everyone on the mark ups...There should be a law against that or something..I think..

Thumbs up Re: 2007 Mustang Shelby GT500 Pricing Released

Motor Trend (July, 2006 issue) got a very respectable high-12-second ¼ mile time from the blown, 500 HP Shelby GT500 Mustang. They praised it to the sky, not only for it's easy-to-control power but also for it's handling, braking and overall build quality. MT also gave the GT500 high marks for 'fun to drive', concluding that, with the 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang, "Ford got it right'. For the price, I certainly hope so.

As it's a bit cheaper and a lot more 'practical' than the Corvette - and not a GM product - the near-$41,000. MSRP is not outrageous or unreasonable...if you happen to have that kind of money to spend on a car. I don't. Yet, I have to be just a tad envious of those who do.

Regardless, anyone who pays a fat dealer premium for this Mustang is a fool - or else, has more money than brains. While the '07 Shelby GT500 Mustang is very likely a great car, with the Ford Motor Company sucking wind for sales these days and it's stock in the toilet, Ford dealers are not going to be able to rip off potential GT500 buyers for long. Well, we hope not.

The Vette at $45,000 (for the base vehicle?) is not really such a bad deal is it? I drove an '02? (6speed), I believe it was, that really drove nice and had plenty of power (345 hp?) at around 3100-3200 lbs. Anyway, I couldn't really flog it well enough to test it with the owner sitting right beside me, but it did run and handle well for that kind of car. I'm really a Ford kind of guy, but I could not fault that Vette in any way except maybe for the looks, and that wasn't too bad either. OK, I know I'm open for flames now, LOL.

Smile Re: 2007 Mustang Shelby GT500 Pricing Released

If you're a really a 'Ford guy', the GT500 is the only game in town. C'mon! 500HP/high 12's right off the showroom floor (with a factory blower set-up in th bargain) as well as handling and braking equal to the engine. What a concept - and all for about 15 grand more than a 'regular' GT. I think they'll sell -but not if Ford dealers try to jack up the price out of sheer greed.

If you're really more of a Chevy guy and/or have no brand loyalty and sometimes find yourself thinking: 'I always wanted a 'Vette' (many folks fit that description) than the fiberglas flyer is for you. Apparently the new Corvette breaks the standard Corvette mold (great drivetrain, weak body, crappy fit and finish) and, according to all reports, its a great car, just like the '07 GT500. However, it's still a two-seater and, alas, still a GM product.

At those stratospheric pricing levels, you pays your money and you makes your choice. If I even had that kind of money to spend on a car, I would choose the 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. But that's just me.

I would probably go for the Shelby GT 500 as well. That doesn't necessarily mean that the Vettes are bad cars does it? The Z06 is supposed to be amazing in performance and I don't doubt it. Granted, the Z06 version sells for somewhere around the $60,000 or so that the Shelby Gt 500's are approachung at the moment.

i personally like the look of the GT 500 more than the vette myself. seems to have a stronger more tough look to it.

I'm completely with you on that point.
Both cars have their strengths and if my garage would both .... I wouldn't mind.

I'm just watching the markup wars at dealerships with their first batch of GT500s. Waiting for the day to see these GT500s go for MSRP or with incentives.

Yeah, good luck to him on that. There are 7,500 being made so it's not like the GT500 is a real low production vehicle. Ford had problems moving the Mach 1's off the lots at MSRP a couple years ago (I saw some discounted vehicles) and that was at 10,000 units. Granted the Cobra was also in production, but many of those were going at MSRP or discounted as well.
