Default GT40-P's

I'm ready to install heads on my car but i'm on a budget and I just wanted to see what everyone thinks about the GT40-P's I was lookin at them on jegs (397-M-6049-P303) and they seem to be the best price for me there like $275 a peice and id like to maybe throw on some 1.60 rr's and then maybe a E-303 cam, what does everyone think?

the gt-40p's are a great way to go w/ a budget. I just got the gt40 intake and as soon as i get some money the heads are coming next. I hear they add some serious horsepower over the E7's especially if you do some light porting and polishing to em.

From what others have told me, the stock cam still makes great power with the heads, but if you want to you can feel free to use a B cam. The E cam might be a little big if you plan on keeping it smog legal and all. I'm not really sure on the pushrods. I was planning on reusing mine when i did it but now I'm not to sure. They already have 100k on em and with the more power that the heads will put out, i would recommend being on the safe side and getting new pushrods.

not to make agent 4573 sound dumb.. not the intent but if ur lookin to stay smog legal Bcam is not the way to go.. u'll never pass the sniffer test with that cam. Dont get me wrong its a great cam but to much duration to past the test.. the E is a smog legal sooo there ya go man. best of luck man.

You'll definately want to do some porting on them if you do decide to get them. The intake side flows great, but the exhaust side needs a little work. You will be fine with a motorsport cam if you do some port work to even out the flow, but if not, then go after a split duration cam that favors the exhaust side.

$275 is way too much, when you can get them MUCH cheaper here http://www.kellnet.com/chambers/

I bought a pair of bare P's + valves for $280 from them, not to shabby.

good luck,
-drew

Well the cheapest I've seen are the ones from chambers... it was posted earlier in this thread...

ASSEMBLED - Basic, ready-to-bolt-on GT-40P heads from the same lot of clean and un-rusted factory castings. These affordable heads are assembled with factory style components including stainless steel valves, retainers, seal and locks. Valve springs are single wound with dampers suitable for valve lifts up to 0.520".

$425.00 plus shipping

Wont he have to drill his "P" heads for the thermactor fittings in the back of the heads to pass any smog test? I have seen this option on the heads for like an extra 100bux.

Central Coast Mustang sells GT-40P's for $639 with a stage 1 port and upgraded valve springs.

Beware using the stock valve springs they are only good to .500 lift.
