Default differential ID 8 or 9

I was wondering if there was an easy way to check if i have a 8.8 or 9 rear end.. i looked at the plate on the door and the diff code was scatched off like the previous owner changed it. not sure what gears i have or anything.. is the drain plug in the same place or is it different for the 8 and 9. anything easy like this to see if they are different? thanks.

If you can get a socket setup on all of the nuts holding the third member in you have a 8 in.

Go to the back of the car and look at the diff. from the back if it is completely round you have a 9in if it has a flat spot at the bottom it is an 8 in.
