Intake selection with a 383/408 stroker
Hey all, I'm coming down to the last part of my part selection hunt. It's going to be a 351W stroker, with AFR 185's (205's if I don't keep EGR and thermactor), and a Novi 2000 blower. All I have to figure out is the intake and the camshaft (I THINK I'm going with something along the lines of CompCams 276HR [220/244 & .544/.560]). The point is this: this is going to be a daily driven car with an automatic transmission (modified AOD/E4OD), seeing a LOT of street action and some strip. Therefore, I need fair mileage and a decent amount of horsepower. I really want to keep the EGR on there, but if you haven't noticed, the intake selection for 351W's generally sucks!
Okay, that's my question: what's a good flowing intake that will allow me to keep emission controls on my Stang? My first thought is Trick Flow, but Edelbrocks have always been pretty dependable, too. The AFR heads will flow 280cfm out of the box, and with the blower....I just need an intake that can handle the airflow without absolutely killing the low & midrange. Somebody needs to make a medium-length, LARGE runner intake for 351W's. Help me???

Hey, Try going with the Edelbrock's Victor 5.0 intake. It will flow the numbers that you desire.

Problemo there, dude. The Victor 5.0 is for 5.0-based engines. Mine's 351W-based. I know, I know, they have a Victor EFI for 5.8's, but it doesn't have EGR passages, either. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Any others???

Well, I dont know why you want to keep your EGR on a 383/408 (it wont be emissions legal anyway, right?) but Im pretty sure the Trick Flow 351 intake retains the EGR provisions.

A blown 351 will have plenty of low end, dont worry about it.

Not sure if it will be emissions legal but the Spyder is the best intake out for a blown 351 based stroker..that's what I'll be getting for my 408 or 418ci combo next year. A Saleen 351 intake wouldn't be bad, put it will be pricey...
Not sure if you have found your kit yet but I have been working with Brian Adams and he has the best prices I have found, just got a forged 331 combo from him for dads 93 Cobra. Drop him a e-mail he wll save you some money and is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. Tell him Rick sent ya! Brian Adams- scatstroker@hotmail.com or 425-941-2267

Thanks, Rick! Yeah, I really do need somebody to hook me up on a stroker kit, and bad! Did I mention I'm on a college student budget? Yeah, exactly, hehehe. Well, I'm not worried about the low end anymore, and as far as heads and stuff....well, that's probably just going to come down to money. I mean, if I can afford the AFR 205's, I'll go with those. If it's tight, I'll go with 185 street legals. I figure if I don't get stupid with the compression ratio, I can just crank up the boost if I wanna go faster.
That Spyder's looking more and more attractive all the time though. Those things supposedly F-L-O-W!!! Comes with 1/2 inch fuel rails, for about $750??? Not too shabby. Plus, I've seen the one Dan has, and it's got-damn intimidating just to look at!!!!

Mach 1: yep, checked into it, and it does have the exhaust crossover passage necessary for EGR....therefore, I *assume* it would be cool, emissions-wise... Oh well..... I guess for now, I'll just leave it to the ol' pocketbook to decide, hehehe.
I'm going to keep diggin' for flow numbers, and I'm sure some of the mags out there already have or will have an article on each of the available 351W manifolds. I'm not going to even bother calling the individual companies for numbers because they're all going to tell me the same thing: ours flows the best!
