where to start
I just got my 4.6 and would like to now where I should start with basic mods. Don't want to spend very much money just get a little more hp. I am so used to my 428 I don't know much about the mod motors. It is my daily driver since the 428 is not very economical. I just want to get a little bit so I don't get embarassed while driving it.

Before trying to get more horsepower, you may want to change the R&P gears to 3.55s (or 3.73s even though it's your daily driver). Then you can mess with the mass air meter, throttle body, and mufflers. Go get your K&N filter and remove the air silencer.

Gears, gears, gears...
3.73s are great even for a daily driver (in my opinion). Add a good shifter and you've just got your best bang for the buck on a modular car! Get yourself a K&N and some aftermarket pulleys to add to it and you'll have a great start... ------------------ 98 GT Dyno-Max cat-back exhaust, 3.73 gears, Steeda shifter, Ford Motorsport Underdrive pullies, 87mm MAF and Roush cold air kit... |

Thanks for the help. I am pretty sure I will go with the 3:73 and underdrive pullys I already have the k & n. Hammer how is you gas milage and the dynomax after cat exhaust?
These are the mods I was thinking about the most. ------------------ 69 428 cobra jet:bored .030, forged aluminum pistons, C & A rings, Engle cam, Edelbrock intake, 750 cmf carb, Hooker headers, all ignition componets MSD, Holley 7psi fuel pump, Art Carr C-6, TCI torque converter, 4:30 gears, H pipe, subframe connectors, lift bars. There is a small decrease in gas milage with the 3.73s, but its not that bad, you'll mostly see it if you do a lot of stop and go driving. The fun factor of driving goes up immensly though, and will improve your 1/4 mile too...(The modulars love the higher RPMs) ;-)
Be sure to get an aftermarket shifter such as a Pro 5.0 or Steeda Tri-Ax to go with your new gears. You won't believe you drove with the stock shifter afterward... As far as the dynomax cat back, The sound is nice and throaty, but not loud and annoying as flowmasters can sometimes be. Don't expect any horses out of a cat-back only install though. If you can get them at a good price, the sound alone is worth it.
