soon to buy '89 GT, what exhaust sounds good?
Well, it's official i'm going to be buying a guy at my work's '89 GT. Right now the mods it has are 1.72 roller rockers, 70mm throttle body, K&N panel, BBK fuel pump (medium size pump, forget GPH), relocated battery, Auto Meter 5" tach with light, MOMO racing seat, hurst shifter, thunderbird 8.8" rearend with disc brakes and 3.55's, 5.0L explorer cobra style upper intake (Not installed on vehicle, i will buy a lower for it), relocated lower control arm mount, pony wheels, and it looks PERFECT except it needs detailing and center caps for the wheels. I'm getting it for $1500 US and it has like 140K miles. He was going to sell it to me for 2500 but i declined and then the rear main seal just ruptured and he wants to just sell it quickly. (i'm going to go through the engine and put in a new cam, re-ring or rebuild, etc.) I'm just so happy i thought i'd share with the world!!!!! Ok, sorry, here's my question:
What would sound the best on this vehicle in terms of exhaust. I actually want something loud for this vehicle and sounds just NASTY (but in a good way). I was thinking shorty headers, off-road X-pipe and 2 chamber flows. I don't want to get pulled over ALL the time, but i'd like something that'd sound really wicked. Any suggestions, criticizms or ideas? Thank you, ------------------ '84 Mustang 5.0 LX My car |

I would get MAC/BBK long tubes, off road H-pipe, and get the 2 chamber flowmasters. They sound the best IMO. They have a ready deap throaty sound verse the MAC's that have a deep rumble like a pickup with straight pipes. Anytime someone heres a stang with flows they don't even have to look to tell, because of that distingtive sound that everyone loves. Just my $.02

Here's a clip of my car. This was before I knocked out the last two cats in the H-pipe and put on some 1 & 5/8ths headers. Sounds a heck of a lot better now. Also, I had the camera too dang close and the fuel pump is freakin' loud.

How hard are long tube headers to install/remove?
I'm toying with alot of ideas, but those Mac exhaust products sure do look/sound great! I'll probably end up going with Mac all the way back. I don't want dumps because if i get in traffic i don't want to die from breathing fumes or worrying about a cop giving me crap about it exiting at the back of the car (I'll keep the GT fairly legal....as for the '84 i've got some plans). I may get those Mac pro-dumps for my '84 since i'm mostly just going to race it, but still drive on the street some. I'm hesitant to mix and match different products because of the potential for bad fit (there's about 10 unoriginal cuts/bends in my '84's exhaust). Thanks for all your info. ------------------ '84 Mustang 5.0 LX My car |
