Default ATF, what kind????

In a week or so I"m putting a rebuilt 700r4 (sorry it's a chevy, but I figured someone could give me some info) in my 355 astrovan. It rebuilt with 9 instead of 6 cluthes, mild shift kit, .500 boost valve, corvette servo, upgraded pump, etc. What kind of ATF should work best, I bought some cheap stuff a few weeks ago, but I figured if there would be any benifit in getting something better I'd exchange it before I put the trans in.

Dexron 2 or higher would be fine. The "cheap" stuff is the same as any name brand tranny fluid of that type. Just to let you know. An old trick with GM trannies that arent electronically controlled or electronic lockup torque convertor is to put Type F in instead of the Dexron. Supposedly it is denser than the Dexron giving you a little harsher shift like a shift kit. Also, if that 700R4 is electronic lockup, i would recommend bypassing the computer and put a switch were you can manually lockup the convertor. That is one of the downfalls of the 700R4's being bad trannys.

I would run a QUALITY tranny cooler for your setup. I don't know much about synthetic automatic tranny fluid, but i have seen people race with the "cheap" stuff and had zero problems related to the fluid. Run a good cooler and you should be fine.

I actually have the lockup hooked up to a switch already, and I put in an aftermarket cooler. The fluid I bought is Dextron 3, I also just got a 2200-2500 stall converter off ebay.

Anyone know how to set the kickdown cable the right way, I heard you can burn up the trans in a few days if it's not set right, which mught be the reason my old trans burned out so quickly. It seemed like it took too long for it to shift and felt like it slipped a little.
