Went to track....watched some interesting stuff
Just took the dialy driver (87 GT) there to watch some runs. What was interesting was a couple LS1s that were there. One was a 99 Z28 stock 6 spd....ran 14.1-14.4s @ 95-98 mph all night. Another was a stock 2001 SS 6 spd. that ran 14.6s @ 100-101 mph all night. Fastest LS1 there was a WS6 6 spd that ran a 13.8 @ 103 once. Saw a 99 GT auto--4.10s, h-pipe, cat-back-cold air--chip...he ran 14.0-14.3 all night....Stock 2001 GT 5 spd ran 14.3......Stock '98 Cobra that ran 13.9s @ 99-100 mph...Last was a Civic 3 door that ran 12.7s all night @ 111-112 mph....Turbo VTEC. Did not have the ricer look either....kind of scary.....
Just some numbers for you street racers! ------------------ '86 GT. Gears & Flows '87 GT. Stock |

The civic had no stickers, no tint on the windows.....although it did have a carbon fiber hood...but other than that...it looked stock....all the gauges were in the middle console so u could not see them if you pulled next to it at a light.

Wow! 14.6 at 101! It must have been interesting to see these people launch!
Drag racing is not as easy as most people think. No matter what car you are in. |

I did not run the '87..i'm trying to keep it stock so....
LT1 Z28...that SS would launch, bog bad and then try to recover every time......Hopefully he will get better....but yea the driver was not the greatest. But all it takes is practice. ------------------ '86 GT. Gears & Flows '87 GT. Stock |

Drag racing is so technical and it takes lots of practice. I improved my times from 14.6's to 14'1's my first day at the track. Actually, my first run was a 16.8, I was so nervous I missed 3rd and cruised through the traps.
But it's all fun! |

I'm not looking at the times, I'm lookin at the trap speeds.
101mph for an SS, and 103 for a WS6? Not soooo gooooood. |

Yea it wasn't a good showing for LS1s that night. With pratice those people should bring those times down. The 99-00 GTs were traping like 97-98 mph with the low 14s. It was interesting to see those LS1s in the hands of not so great drivers. Reminded me that anything can happen on the street and track!

the thing about ls1s and their trap speeds has a lot to do with the drivers. a lot of people shift them at 5500 and such, when they really need to be wound out to 6200. another thing that can hurt traps is granny shifting. these guys running 107+mph are running these cars hard, not pussy footing down the track.

Smooth....i totally agree....i feel to get these cars to run those low times..people have to beat them pretty bad to get that. Powershifting, slippiing clutch, etc. At least that is what the LS1 drivers i talked to have said.

I agree with that. But don't forget, the Borg Warner T-56 is a great tranny and can take lots of power shifts whitout problems. Of course, the clutch takes a beating but a McLoad or Centerforce is cheaper than the stock replacement clutch.
It makes me laugh when I see guy racing their F-Bodies like they are fragile or something. |

I saw some ricers running 12.7-129 all night too, an integra and riced out civic turbo, these cars had a butt load of $$ in them, and i was laughing at the front slicks they looked like they had about 2lbs of air in them, a bit unstable, and a front wheel drive? hold on to the wheel!!! lol pretty impressive though, sound like motorcycles.
