Operation Super Stang
Okay guys, here is my current idea... aka its been my idea for a long long time. Im going to sell my 87 gt t-top in orderto buy a gas effecient 4 cylnder Stang.... now your thinking.. look hes becoming a pansey.. .But no my mustang obsessive friends! Then seeing i can spend little money on gas to work and back and sit back most for the operation of the 93 hatch i have. I am going to do it correctly, since i bought the car completly stripped i will have no problem welding sub frame connecters and all that stuff in it. All the proper handling parts not to mention the proper Stiffening Components. Then we go to the Motor, where it shall be a 331 Class 20 block Roush heads, Turbo, no nos cause i hate it...... Tremec 600 5 speed trans.. i already have Aluminum drive shaft, 3:73 gears with 5 lug conversion....... then the Gt ground effect, Saleen wing and to top it all off...... Stormin Norman Hood.. cause it looks kool.... and if that wouldnt be functional with Turbo for what ever reasons..... the cobra r hood.... what do you guys think?

Re: Operation Super Stang
I think you should use better punctuation as it hurts to read your posts.
In addition, 4 banger stangs get lousy gas mileage. Don't expect to do any better than the 5.0. I've had 2 of each so I have a little experience with them. The 4 banger with the auto should be avoided like the plague, unless you like rebuilding A4LD's all day. Otherwise, they seemed like relatively reliable little turtles. |

Re: Operation Super Stang
I can second that. I had a 4cyl stang (now has a 302) and it got 3mpg better than my 89 GT. Big woopty doo. And the 4cyl stangs with the auto is one of the slowest cars I have ever drove.

Re: Operation Super Stang
I think the mid to late 90's 3.8's were supposed to be pretty good on gas. The best i ever saw was 26mpg on the interstate but just once. Just around town and shit was like 16. My advise is on a mid 90's Ford Contour with a 2.0. Why? My idiot sister has a '95. Shes had it for about 4 years, I think the oil has been changed twice maybe three times and I put new plugs and wires on it 2 winters ago. I drove it last month and it now has about 250k. I put maybe 5 gallons of gas in it and drove it to Evansville Ind. (3hr round trip). Probably not the coolest vehicle in the world but I would rely on it. I'm not real sure but I think it gets around 35mpg. I'm pretty sure they're cheap 2. She gave 5k for hers back in 2001. But for real 2.3L mustangs are probably one of Fords top shames.

Re: Operation Super Stang
With the auto, my 4 banger 88s got 17-19 around town and 23-24 on the highway/freeway.
The 87 and 88 5.0 5 speeds got 18-21 and 26-28. On average, I got about 2mpg better with the 5.0. The 94+ 3.8L V-6 will be lucky to see 20mpg in town or 25 on the road. The 3.8L V-6 is a pretty poor engine when it comes to economy. |

Re: Operation Super Stang
GT down to 4 - cl!?!? - are you feeling o.k. !! no offence - but here's the rationale - v6 in same car compared to v8: the 6 has to work harder to haul around the car than the 8....the gas economy is no better!! done the testing...the 6 will wear faster... also, driving an 8 without being on it all the time gaives same economy as the 6 3.8L....sorry, i'm just another muscle head!!!

Re: Operation Super Stang
werd, 2.3's are not gas effiecient. unless your talkin about an SVO..then its fun and efficient..
same thing w. the 2.3 TC t-birds..average about 16-18 mpg on 12 lbs of boost.. buddy of mine is bout o yank his an put in 5.0..for better gas milage.. get an escort, or a honda. one thing japanse cars are good for..commuter d/d weaponry..
