MAC longtubes......opinions?
Howdy,
I've been looking at longtube headers for my 94 cobra. I was initially looking at bassani because of the better build quality, but they don't make long tube headers for my car, and i'm no good with a welder, so i'd like something that just bolts up. SOOOO i could get some opinions of people that have had MAc longtubes. I pick MAC because they have VERY reasonable prices. Thanks in advance. For the price MAC is alright, my longtubes were a real pain to install as the flanges wouldn't line up. Took a nice hammer and pry bar, and now they're in. They've started rusting already too. After only 4 months that is. As long as you get the coated headers, (not their HTC or whatever), you'll be okay for rust.

What about some BBK longtubes? A few of my friends have Mac headers and IMO there not good. I have BBk ones and I a very pleased. If your on a budget you can get chrome BBK longtubes from jegs, at $239.

I have the MAC longtubes, and they were not easy to install. They also corroded quickly. After a couple of years, I had them ceramic coated for $200 when I was rebuilding the engine.
I understand the BBK headers fit better, and are available with the ceramic coating option. ------------------ Russ L '91 LX Procharger, 3 row intercooler, extrude honed Cobra intake, Mac full Length Headers, 30# inj., 73mm C&L, 75mm tb, E303 cam, 289 rods, ported E7 heads, MSD, T-Rex w/255 lph Walbro, 5 lug conversion, Cobra R wheels, 3.27 gears and Moser Axles. |

Ceramic coating is almost a must IMO anyore. I have the BBK ceramic coated equal length shores and they still look brand new. I want the Bassani Long tubes but for $484+100 FOR JET HOT COATING, I'm going to have to pass. =( I'm probaly getting the BBK Long tubes Ceramic coated.

I am on my second set of MAC headers, this time, the long-tubes. I have their HTS coating which, in my opinion, sucks. MAC customer service is half-*** also. They make good power but as everyone has said, they were a pain to install. I would recommend BBK long-tubes. Their standard long-tubes were cheaper than mine with the coating. Good luck.

I just installed a set of mac longtubes on my 347. I know that some people dont agree to wrap the headers but it seemed to me that it would be worth the risk to keep some heat out from under the hood. They have been a real pain in the *** to install but its my first time to put on longtubes so they all may be that way. And yes, the htc coating is sh*t but the header wrap from Summit came with its own silicone htp good up to 2100 deg. Hope it works ok. Ill let ya know.
