![]() Ive converted my mustang over to an electric fuel pump and am wondering if it will make a diffrence if the fuel pump is above or below the gas tank.

![]() Electric pumps are really gravity fed, so mount it a s low as possible. They are great pushers, but lousy pullers.

![]() You are much better off mounting it as close to the fuel tank as you can. This will gravity feed it and let it push the fuel to the carb. Instead of trying to suck it.
Electric pumps aren't good "suckers". Sounds like what happens to a "great" girl friend after they eat Wedding Cake. |

![]() I do have mine mounted right in trunk right above the fuel tank. Some think it's not wise to have it right there behind the back seat. It does work O.k. in that position though.

![]() Sounds like a good place to me. I have been wanting to install an electric pump in my 68 FB. But, don't really know where to mount it.
I'm not faulting, but in the trunk, above the fuel tank is a tadd high, isn't it?? What pump are you running?? What engine are you running?? I'm running a 289, .060 over, roller cam, head work and dual AFB's. AOD and 3.50 rear. |

![]() Mine was a Mallory 110 GPH and I used a Mallory fuel filter right next to it. That's one of those big ones that look like a small oil filter with the replaceable element. Had a small ectrical problem with the wires that mated internally to the brushes. Like to drove me crazy (on again, off again). I replaced the pump with the red Holley while I repaired the Mallory. Now I just keep the Mallory as a back up unit. Maybe 6" higher than the gas tank outlet and right above. Some think that's a fire hazard right there in the trunk and right behind the back seat. May be safer to have it down beneath and outside the car where if it leaked it would just drip on the ground.

![]() Although I have converted both my 65 and 68 to fuel cells, the easiest location to mount a pump on a classic is on the side wall of the well in the trunk area. Either left or right will work. From the cell or tank, you run a line (90 degrees) to a filter mounted behind the valance, then to the pump (another 90 degree bend),and from there forward to the carb. i found the passenger side a better location, since the throttle linkage on the carb is on the drivers side. This allows you to run the line directly into the float bowls on the carb, instead of crosing over the motor. Very easy to do and a clean install.
