Default Need some 351 swap info.

Hi guys, I need some info about motor mounts. I believe that the 351 is about 3 inches taller than the 302 but I would like to keep it just as low or about the same height as a 302. Does anyone make mounts that keep the engine lower? I would like to keep using the stock hood if possible.

I need info on Fox bods as well as SN95 fox4 platform cars such as mine.

Can the stock H.O. upper intake manifold be ported and will a stock 302 upper mate to a 95 Cobra R 351 lower? Will any other lowers mate to a stock 87-95 H.O. upper?

Do you need a new crossmember or any kind of cutting or welding to do the swap?

I REALLY appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks in advance.

HP makes a SOILD motor mount that works for this swap. It will drop the block 3/4 of an inch lower. I bought mine from Holcomb Motorsports, about $50. However... if you use the Moroso pan, you will have to shim the engine back up to clear the K-member. If you use solid engine mounts remember to use a solid trans mount.

Other than exhaust length differences, a 302 to 351 ENGINE swap is bolt-in with no cutting or adapaters required. Correct headers are a help. Mine from a 302 were "made to fit" with a hammer and are not easy on the eyes.

Any accessories, drives, cables, wires, and such on the top may have to be reconfigured.

Unless you're looking for a VERY low rpm torque-
only motor, you really don't want that HO upper.
It's a choke even on a stock HO. And it wouldn't fit he Cobra 351 lower because the Cobra
is a round staggered port and the HO upper is a
rectangular inline port. However, the truck 351
efi lower IS a staggered round port. And it would
fit an Explorer upper which is like a GT40 type.

Here's some info -

And here's a slick one on using 302 style intakes
on 351's (to fit the complete 302 Explorer intake on the 351)

Thanks for all the info guys, and trust me...I DONT prefer to use the stock H.O. manifold but I need to for this project. This fuckers gonna look stock and pack a lot of cubes. Just an idea Im kickin around. MM&FF has a great article about porting a stock manifold this month.

Thanks again for the info.

Jesse, you going to swap your 5.0 for a 5.8?

And keeping it stock looking to make sure some guy gets suckered into a race, I like it.
