Red face How important is a stereo?

Here's the scoop. I finally scraped together $600 dollars in my stang account. It boiled down to an intake or stereo. I went and bought the stereo. I've been driving around for 1 1/2 years without any sort of a stereo saving for a blower. Literally nothing. No tape deck no c.d player, just me and my flowmasters. I figured it was time, and I got a really good deal. A pioneer premier head unit, 4 speakers, an amp, bass tube, amp kit and face plate for $600. Sounds killer. I just can't help but think I might have been able to free up 20 horses with $600. How important is a stereo you guys?

My stereo in my 64 1/2 Diane, croaked 3 years back, and I have yet still to try to fix it.

In my 2000 GT, I can count the number of times I've turned the stereo on with only the finger on my hands.

Stereo's arent to important to me, but that diffres from person to person.

They are important. My cars gettin so loud I can hardly hear the stereo over the exhaust anymore though.

A worthwhile investment, as you got a good deal also! It'll make you enjoy your car even more now.

Tunes and a blower nice combo.

I will sell my Edelbrock Intake if you want to buy it.

very important....my cars older and makes lots of strange noises.....it's easyer to make the stereo louder then it is to track down all the strange noises

actually i love music ...so a stereo is very important....i don't need a real fancy one just one that goes really loud and sounds good.....thers nothing like pulling up next to a ricer thats got nothing but bass from a rap song pouring out of it and finding an old rock song and just plain old drowning him out.....then when he gets mad and takes off it's even better when you can blow past him and make him look slow too....nothing against ricers or rap ....i just like my rock music and would rather hear it when i'm at an intersection.....enstead of just the base from some kid who thinks base makes him look cool

I guess a basic stereo is something every car should have. Although I think I've listened to 2 songs since I've moved to texas!

before i got my stang i use to be real big into stereo's. but now i've been more concerned with making my car faster and such. but i still think a stereo is very important. like when a ricer with a fart pipe comes up next to u, u can drown out that lawnmower noise!

I think a stero is important but not in my mustang. The mustang came with just an am and one speaker. These are ofcourse long gone and will never return. I refuse to put any kind of stero in it and never will. Now on the other had. I could never drive my truck without a stero. Right now it just has the factory stereo but it will get upgraded as time goes on. I don't need anything loud just something that sounds good.

Well considering I've spent about $3000CDN ($2000US) on stereo, I'd say it's important. For the amount of driving I do, and the amount I like music, tunes are important and I can't stand the sound of crappy systems. That's why I went out and did it right. When I consider the fact that I could have afforded heads, an intake, and a cam for the same money, it kind of sheds some light on the situation but I think all in all I'm happier right now.

Dang....$2000 on stereo...if I only had that much money to blow.

I guess if it came down to it, I would go for performance. To me, that's the essential. The stereo is just an added pleasure.

Don't get me wrong, I love the tight setups some guys have with the high dollar components and installs, but I'll stick to the essentials. A good head unit (Alpine CDE7831), a decent set of components (6 stock Ford speakers...they actually do a pretty good job), and a quality sub and amp (Aura Force 10" with a matching amp).

All told, I spent about maybe $400 over several years on stereo stuff.

The last bit of this ramble I guess would be, reguardless of your setup, you've got to have a decent sub. They add sooo much depth and substance to your music that I don't think I could go without one.

I have an aluminum plate where my stereo used to be for a few good reasons. First of all I've done a lot with my car and I'm a paranoid person. Always listening to see if there's a new noise that shouldn't be there like an exhaust leak, knock, squeak...you get the idea. Second, the radio stations around here suck. I don't like classic rock or country and most everything in between is a waste. Most radio stations play the same 40 songs over and over again anyhow. The third reason is the roads around here are to bumpy for a cd player. I've had some before and they get beat up in 2 years. And when I do buy a cd for 12-14 bucks I end up liking 2 songs which I soon get tired of. So I'm turning into a cranky oldman in that respect but I'd rather spend the money on speed parts which I don't get tired of.

Stereo, umm. I remember seeing mine somewhere in the basement about 7 years ago.

When you get older you tend to go a little crazy.

The voices in my head keep me entertained

If you cant hear the radio over your car, then i would suggest you get rid of it. I swore i would never get rid of my a/c and radio. And i gutted it all a few months ago.

I say "go" to the stereo.

Its the Performer. Currently its on my car. I would take 300-350 for it.

I have a custom made ported speaker box for the hatch back with 2 12" rockford fosgate speakers in it. Its really nice, and sounded great with a 150watt amp, but it no longer fits with my roll cage. If anyones isnterested.

With my electric fuel pump and the fact my car doesn't have a lot of sound deadening, I'll take the stereo. I don't think I could do a 4 hour drive without a stereo. Just a head unit, mids and tweets up front, a set of mids and tweets on a plate where the stock 6x8's were and 1 12" kicker sub with a 40Wx4 Kicker amp gets the job done for me.
