Keep UP with a Camaro?
how many mods would it take to keep up with a ls1 camaro? I am looking at either a camaro or a mustang and i like the styling of both but a camaro IS faster. I have been in the car many times to see that happen. i know it takes at LEAST a cobra to POSSIBLY keep up with a stock camaro. my friend has a 35th gt and he gets spanked by them all the time. Please dont tell me that a v6 mustang will beat a ls1 camaro and all that stuff. we all know that the only way that would happen is if that little blue oval turend into a jet engine. i really want to know becasue this effects my near future. thanks

Stock with a blower or a 150 shot will do the trick.

And I dont think anyone here is dumb enough to even begin to utter the words that a (stock) v6 will beat an ls1. Most, if not all, people here are very knowledgeable of our stallions, and to make a comment like that is almost insulting. On a lighter note, welcome to MW!!

I guess it depends quite a bit on what Mustang you are talking about. Are you talking a new mustang, or something older with the 5.0 in it? Check out some of the cars on this site too. Many have listed their modifications and track times, so that should give you an idea. Oh, and welcome to MW .

A 99-01 cobra is pretty close to a LS1
A 03 Cobra should spank an LS1 A 03 mach 1 should be every bit as good if not better than a LS1. A 96-98 cobra with gears and exhaust will normally haul ***. A 87-93 5.0 with a heads, cam, intake package will haul ***. I beat LS1's all the time in my stock 01' Cobra............I cant beat them all but I hold my own nicely. My 90LX will crush a stock LS1.

What about 94-98 mustang gt's, we need like gears, full exhaust, pullies and just that much might be enough to beat an LT1 camaro as far as LS1 anyone think its possible to keep up without a power adder or nos for us 94-98 4.6's??? My guess would be no but there is the head swap option but even without that theres proberly no way...grrr

With an otherwise stock '96-'98 with a power adder, you'd still need to be a good driver to beat an LS1.

A 94 -95 stang with bolt ons, gears and slicks can easily be an LS1 killer.
A 96-98GT is a turd without the head swap or a power adder. I am actually looking for a 96GT to turn into a drag car. I plan on doing the head swap with 4.10 gears and slicks.

I spend alot of time at the track. Any 94-95 stock 5 speed can hit 14's. I have seen 96-98's run 15.2-15.5 all day long. Then start modding and the 94-95 leaves the 96-98 in the dust. I have friends with 94-95 stangs running 11's all motor with the stock short block. I have a 320HP 01 cobra and my 90LX with the stock short block, cam and mnodded stock heads smokes it. Bad,

Alot of guys with otherwise stock '96-'98's and a blower still have trouble running much better than mid-13's because of the crappy heads. That won't beat an LS1 if the driver is decent.

Re: Keep UP with a Camaro?
Dark 5.0, you're at like 10,000' or some crazy shit like that. I went 14.9 (at sea level) in my stock 97 and i can't drive. I'd prbobaly lost my rear w/slicks, but what a show that could have been.

Re: Keep UP with a Camaro?
From what I've heard and seen, the 4.6s from 96-97's really really really have to run to get 14s from the factory.
MM&FF quoted that it was easier for them to get the 99 V6 they tested into the 14s than it was to get the 96 GT they tested. While there may be a few stock 14sec 96-97GT's (the 98s do run harder) out there, I don't see the accuracy of quoting them as 14sec cars. Quite frankly, the time you have listed is unbelievable from a stock 97GT with your 60ft time. If you cut a 2.0 60ft (entirely possible with a very good driver), you'd have a 13sec stock 97GT. Btw, I'm not calling you a liar at all. If that's what you ran, that's what you ran. I just can't understand or explain the numbers. |
