disc conversion
Found a place called Auto Recycling Mall that says it has a complete 68 Msutang disc brake conversion from a Granada for $200...my question is does that sound fishy to you guys, or could it be legit, i figured it might cost more then that....also, are there any other cars that u can use to convert to disc besides 75-80 granadas/mavericks...and, did anyone find out the size of the granada disc? thanx for yer time

$200 is a lot for something that is only good for the spindles. The rest of it will have to be replaced. I walk away from yards who want to charge $100 or more for a Granada setup. You should be able to get them for $50 - $75 easy enough.

I believe the 75-80 monarchs will work also. I picked up some 79 monarch spindles for 60 bucks. Everything else will come from a parts store. amartin725 is right, your really buying the spindles, so I would say 200.00 is too much unless it comes with new rotors and calipers. My 2 cents.

You will need a dual reservoir master cylinder and at least a distibution block. The proportioning valve isn't that important unless you have power brakes. I haven't installed my stuff yet and am still doing research so I may be wrong about the proportioning valve. A great website that walks you through the process and even sells some little things you may need is www.mustangsteve.com Check it out and good luck.

I think we need an adjustable proportioning valve. I use a Wilwood (sp?) that came with my Granada disk conversion set up. I got my kit from Jim's Mustang in El Cajon Ca. with bushed Granada spindles (allowing use of original Mustang tie rod ends), new MC, rebuilt calipers, new rotors, bearings, grease seals, new soft lines, hard lines to connect the MC/proportioning valve/hard brake lines, and the adjustable proportioning valve itself.
The adjustable proportioning valve won't let my rear drums lock up even on very hard stops. The whole system works great. Total cost was $600 and $50 shipping to Houston. I just installed Granada disc on my 68 and they work great, but still not power. I heard the power kit costs about $300. It was very easy, did't even have to change the tie rod ends. Tip: assemble the calipers before you put it on the car. Dave

Dave68, I'm not too sure about the '68, but I don't really miss power on my '66. I could get it from Trans Am racing for aother $450 that would allow a smaller power booster to fit the '66, but don't really feel the need. Your '68 would allow a standard booster to fit. May be worth it to you.

I'm not worried about have power brakes as much as I'm more worried that the brakes wont clear the GT rims I have since they are only 14x7, but pretty soon when i get enuf money im gettin chrome bullits rims...but for the mean time, will they fit, or will I have to modify it some?

I didn't have to change anything beyond the spindles and I don't see how rims wouldn't fit. It was really amazing how it works so easy. I hope my future upgrade from my auto to a 4 speed is so easy.

Not to throw another wrench in the works but if you get the parts off of a 69-70 mach one then you get 12.6" rotors as well if you do that you need the tie rod ends off of a 69-70 too they will clear some 14" rims but not all on my car they rubbed until I replaced the slide bushings.
