air pump quarry
well here is the situation:
I have an off-road H pipe and had problems with the air tube that connects to it so that is now blocked off to fix the hole in the h-pipe. As far as I know that is really only needed to help the cats from clogging up which I know longer have now what should I do with the other end that connects to the air pump. I makes a strange noise that I don't like if I leave it open. Will it do any harm if I block it off? Should I just get a shorter belt and bypass the air pump all together? What else would I have to do to the egr or passages through the heads if I got rid of the whole system? Thanks guys

ait pump
Buy an Air pump eleminator, that way you can keep the belt you have and it installs in no time at all.

the EGR is a separate system. Removing the air pump and all the hoses, vacuum lines, etc...is the way to go. Just put plugs in the back of the heads, and eithier run a short belt or get the air pump eliminator idler pulley. i have the motorsport one, its a nice piece.

Air is pumped from the air pump into the heads through the lines to reduce pollution.

I removed the pump and got a shorter belt, also my heads arent plugged yet, so i guess i have a vaccumm leak there, dont think its much of a problem at the moment.

How do you plug the heads? Are they threaded? If so, what size?
I have had the air pump bypassed for almost a year now, and I want to get rid of the rest of the lines on the passenger side, but I know I need to plug the head after I do it. I've heard the plug it advice before a half dozen times, but no one ever knows what size the hole is. Not ripping on anybody, but I like to be precise with things.

yes, they are threaded. I dont know the exact size, but when you remove whats in there now, you can see for yourself what size it is.

The plugs for the back of the heads are a 5/8" thread about 1" long. I just removed my Air pump to clean up the mess under the hood. Looks a lot better now!

yeah i agree with you, a buddy of mine had his plug fall out, and it sounded like the darn header broke, the leak was so bad. i took my air pump apart and hollowed the insides out with an air chisel, there are little stones in there that act like a seal, that make it pump. i just broke those apart. now its just like an idler pulley. it would probably be more practicle to just buy the eliminator though.
