Question Where's the weak spot going to be.Dyno results

Well, I just got the dyno results, and to tell the truth, Im not happy. My combo, see if you could spot a bad spot. I have my suspicions.. 347 C.I. Scat steel crank, Crower Forged rods, Nowak 400 forged pistons( can handle 175 to 200 hp nos), sealed power plasma moly rings, probe 7 qt pan and stud girdle, all balanced. Motorsports double roller chain. Comp cams 31-762-9( around 600 lift and 255 durration @ 50 ). Comp solid rollers, comp pushrods, comp valve springs, Crane roller rockers. Dart Jr' heads(stage 3 )and cut (milled)50 thousands. Match Ported Victor Jr. Intake. B&G 750 carb. DBL pump. K&N filter, dont have the new style filter top yet, MSD pro billet distributor, MSD 6al Rev limit @ 7000 and blaster ss coil. Hooker super comps equal lenght long tubes with 1 3/4 primaries and 3.5 collectors 2.5" dual exhaust with a very close H pipe. Flow masters, motor sports aluminum drive shaft, 8.8 rear, moser axles, and girdle. And a WC T-5 with some extra stuff inside from rebuild. My problem is, We only got 431 RWHP and at 6700 rpm. I was kind of hoping for more. there's alot of money in this motor. Any ideas????

Sounds to me like that carb is too small?

What were your A/F Ratios? Did you play w/ timing at all?

431rwhp, damn it should go 120+ mph

431 rwhp???????? Are you on the gas? If not, you are getting a little too greedy. 431 rwhp is very very good for a 347. They say generally you only average about 1-1.5 ponies for every extra cube, so in that case I would be very pleased. I have stage 2 Twisted Wedges that flow about 285-290 intake/220 exhaust. I hit like 380 at the tires. 431 is generally a very high number, blown, gassed, or stroked. I would be very happy.

Exclamation just wasnt sure.

Well, just wasnt sure of the power, This is the first small block motor I've owned, not counting the 2-351's that are in the company trucks. As far as gassing it, I'm looking at between 175-200 hp boost, 2 stage kit, but I need to find a tremec tko first, I'm told the WC T-5 will basically be destroyed with that much power.

The one thing I'm worried about, is the prm where max HP is 6700. Thought it might come sooner. but I'll need to try the car out first. Once I have the dyno sheet in hand, ill know more. I was told that the 4.11's arent enough gear.

Heads, Hmmm I still think it was a mistake to stage 3 those heads.(dart Jr's)

I think this comming year I'll go to stage 2 canefeilds and a carb thats between 850-1050cfm.

What is your compression ratio? If you do the math your making 507 hp on the motor. I think you should be REALLY pleased with 431rwhp coming out of a 347. What numbers were you hoping for?

Yeah I would be very happy with those #'s.....Your car should be a rocket...Skyman made a good point I am sure your engine can handle more carb.

Just curious why do you think it was a mistake to stage 3 the dart heads.

Why do you guys think a 750 is too small of a carb? Your running a Barry Grant, a.k.a. "Demon" the 750 is really actually more like a 770.

I don't think the carb is your problem either.

You should be happy with a 347 making 431 RWHP. Very good numbers.

As for the gear, a 4.10 should be plenty of gear. You don't want to run out of gear at the top-end of the track.

Oh, and ~510 FWHP will destroy the T5 on your first or second pass - or before you get to the track.

Yeah I'd have to agree, your T-5 is going to explode in 1 million parts.

Talking T-5

Think a tremec tko would work? I do plan on installing a power adder, 2 stage fogger 175-200 hp but not higher, I'm told 302 block would be reaching its limit and possibly break, as for the carb, its B&G bought in 96 or 97 I think the model is a B&G sportsman. I was thinking if carb wasnt good, maybe the newer dominator 750?

I just glanced through his post and did not see it was a barry grant 750.

My bad

BG Demons are good, but I for one am not convinced they're any better than equivalent Holleys. I've got both 600's with vac. secs, and don't see much difference except the Road demon electric choke really sucks.

I say TKO II, and your going to need a hardcore clutch with that. With 431rwhp all motor plus 2 stage fogger, your going to be around 700hp+. The weird thing is, your set-up is almost identical to mine in my truck, except we chose slightly different brands of parts.

Default carb.

guess I'll have to get the trans/gear box first( before fogger). I got a quote for installing 5 point belts, Belts and install 210- 270 dollars. and , 300 for a set of hoosier DOT pro drags(dot). The clutch is a dual friction and clutch cable is the heavy duty one. Clutch looked to be in very good shape as well as the flywhell and friction plate. As for the carb.. Like I said, its an older B&G looks nothing like a demon, If you cover the B&G logos, you'd swear you were looking at a holley 750 double pumper, even uses the same rebuild kit.

If the hooker super comps( long tube equal lenght 1 3/4 primaries ) give any trouble with the tremec, The muffler shop I use can modify them to fit. Had to do that with a fairlane GT and super comps.

As to why I think the Dart Jr's arent good, I dont know?????? everyone keeps telling me they arent. the only person who says they were worth working, was the Shop( Lugos ) and right now, im a little pissed at them for taking SOOOOO LONG and being 1200$ over their estimate.
