Default Distributor Question Please Help

I just bought a 88GT with a blown engine. I have a 87 Grand Marcuis Engine that runs really strong and I'm going to us this engine for a month or two. My question is, what's the difference between a HO Distributor and a Non-HO Distributor? Are the gears made of the same material? Would it be safe for me to install the HO Distributor into the Grand Marcuis Engine which is a Non-HO Engine. Thanks for any replys.

the HO has a roller cam wich uses a steal gear on the distributer. The non HO has a flat tappet cam that uses a cast iron gear. These will not work together. If you install the HO dist with the steal gear in the non HO motor it will chew up the cam shaft. You may be able to swap the gears of the dist, just pop out the pin. I know that ford has two different size distributer gears for the 302 one is like a .5?? and the other is a .4?? . I'm not sure what one you have.
