Talking Car Audio for Your Beater Car?!

Well my junky Discman I was using in my Civic that has served me sooo faithfully for years seems to have finally given up the ghost!

Although I don't want to blow more c-notes on a NEW Eclipse head unit, I may spend some cash on an older Eclipse or Alpine. I've been impressed by the quality and performance of the 2 brands so far, so stick with what you know, right? I already swapped the trash *** stock speakers out, so the cost would only be for the head unit.

What do ya'll put in YOUR daily car? Sure, they aren't as nice as your Stang/weekend Stang, but we DO spend a good amount of time in them!

P.S. I know this post is about audio, but its not a tech question so I figured it belonged in BOL more than the Audio forum

I have a Alpine 7154 in the beater ( I think it's just as old too lol) with speakers from a ford ranger plus a 6" bass tube.

I was all stock in both the old cars. You can pick up a new discman for thirty bucks if you know where to look.

I'm swapping a Blaupunkt head and changer into the Mustang this weekend. It happens to be my daily now.

Karen - She know's how to get me what I need.

Induction - You bring up spanking, and then go right back to speakers?

ive always had a problem with the newer alpine headunits with CDs getting stuck in the unit...happened on the original one bought, and the replacement....so i dont trust alpine....ima huge pioneer headunit fan....never had a problem with them and they look nice (the last generation, they just changed em)

beater cars get a head unit, for cd's, and hand-me-down subs when I put something new in the stang. I don't touch the speakers.

Sony head unit (I prefer Pioneer, but my iPod works flawlessly with the Sony), Kenwood amp, Toshiba amp, Boston Acoustics & Polk speakers, 8" Bazooka, & my iPod.

Take care,

When I was driving the 86 Oldsmobile I put a kenwood deck and Infinity kappa speakers in it. The car is now my 16 yo brothers to drive and i drive the stang everyday.
