Default Turbo 4 T5 and V8 T5???

Ok. a friend of mine has a Turbo 4 T5 as well as a V8 T5. The V8 T5 needs a tailshaft I know.. maybe more?? We are wanting to take the two and make one good one with possibly some good spare parts left over. I know I want a tremec but for now the budget wont allow it. Is this possible. will parts interchange. will it be strong enough for a 306 with heads, cam and mild spray occasionaly? IM not looking for any mad max kinda tranny here... just reliable street and some mile rompin every now and then..

and the V8 T5 needs an input and tail shaft

The T-5 has trouble enough handling the torque of a factory V-8 already. It will definatly not hold up well with NOS.
I would wait until you had enough for the Tremec before I considered any spray.
I also don't know if the two trannys you have will even intercahnge or not.

Well I jsut need a tranny for a little while and if I can get this opne together for a few hundred for now to hold up without spray I will and get the Tremec later

Any reason your not just putting in the 4-t5? I've had one in my 93 for about 2 months, holding up to every power shift I can give it right now. But I don't have sticky tires or NOS.

If i'm not mistaken, the turbo 4 cylinder T5's have REALLY steep gears compared to the V8 T5 which has lower gears for more torque capacity and less need to multiply the already plentiful torque. I think the input shafts may be different between the two and i think i've heard the output shafts are the same. Don't quote me on this though hope this helps out some, i don't have any books i can pull out to set this straight.

The 4-t5 has a 3.97 first vs a 3.3something, all the gears are a little steeper, it felt like I put 4.10's. I just bolted it in, so I know it fits. No changes. But I do believe its temp. kind of thing. I also think the turbo t-5 is differnt, now that I think about. hmmm, not sure of specs on it.

Thanks for that info guys,. Im going to call Hanlon ( the Only place to get tranny parts IMO ) and talk to those guys. See what they say.
