Question E7 Mustang 5.0 heads on a regular '83 5.0 motor

Does anyone know if the '87-'93 5.0 E7 heads work on a regular '83 5.0 motor? I'm worried about the piston to valve clearances. Do the pistons need to be notched?

People swap them onto 86 GT's all they time and those are flat top pistons, so I would think you would be okay, bolt one on and see, that's the only real way to know......ya know.

Question

I asked a friend about my question and he told me the '83 5.0 L V8 (Non H.O.) pistons have no valve reliefs and the valve will hit the pistons. Anyone know if this is true? I want to install '87-'95 E7TE heads on a '83 5.0 L 302 V8 (Non H.O.).

They will work, just be sure to check clearances. Especially with a cam .500 lift or larger.

This probably won't help much at all, but I have a .512 lift cam, 1.6 rockers, and E7 heads which were shaved .03. The intake valve was .01 closer than it needed to be at .09.

Thanks, I'm going to pick-up a pair of E7TE heads this weekend for $75. They're going on an '83 5.0 L 302 (Non H.O.), but I'm not changing the camshaft until I'm exactly sure what I'm going to use, Carb or Fuel injection. I might even use a roller '85-'95 302 shortblock. The heads are going on a full sized '83 Ford Bronco 4x4.
