Mach 460 HELP
I've given up on trying to fix the stock system - Does anybody know of any problems with trying to update the stock Mach 460 (amps etc) w/ a new head unit? I know harnesses are available but I don't want to wreck the system. Any advice?

For the mach 460 systems there is a different wiring harness to connect a aftermarket head unit ( stereo ).. Walmart sometimes has them if in stock, otherwise any car audio shop ( stereo shop ) best buy, etc will have the harness that you need. i believe that particular harness goes for around 15 bucks. If you don't have the right one, you won't get any outputs. keep in mind, it looks the same as a regular harness but if you look its color coded differntly. let me know how it turns out.

Does the back of your stereo look like this.
Here's some pics of mine on my 88 gt Mach 460 is 4 woofer 4 tweeters and 3 amps. Factory wiring is use for tweeter and the woofer is stand alone and controled via the front ampli. If you can get the rear module (2 woofers, 2 tweeters and 2 amps) be sure to get the wiring intact. No wire cut. Otherwise this will be a pain to hook. Do you have pics of what you already have on your car Last edited by White GT; 07-28-2004 at 02:56 PM.. |

Yes it does although it looks like you have a third module. To my knowledge I have stereo cassette (din) cd slave (separate din) and its a convertible so it has woofer boxes in the side not one in the deck. all wiring is intact Im just worried that with a new head unit I wont have the right amperage/ohm going to the amps etc.

Right! The mach 460 need its own power source for woofers. In fact mine is like this. I've installed the mach on my 88 gt and everything was simple except for a power source and a ground. That's it. The third module you see is the front amplifier. You surely have this part.
All you'll need is the front tweeters. One of my friend have a 94 convertible and he said that the wiring is already there for these (not sure) . At the back i'm not sure about what you already have but you'll surely need the two amplifiers and the appropriate wiring to power them. Maybe you have more part for the 460 from factory because it's a convertible gt than a sedan. Better way is to take picture of what you have (if possible) and post it. |
