Default air silencer removal

I was looking under the hood of my '88 the other day and wanted to see if the air silencer was ever removed.
I popped off the round plastic cover the goes to the inner fender well on the passenger side and saw material of some kind on top of the inner fenderwell. Is that it? It almost looks like sound deadener. How does it come out?

I think what you're describing is sound deadener, if that's the case, leave it there. The air silencer can be seen if you remove the stock air filter and look through the hole behind the air filter. If you see the sound deadener through the hole where the air filter system draws its air, the air silencer has already been removed. If a black plastic apparatus is seen with a elbow of sorts facing forward, that the silencer.

BTW---They can be a PIA to remove, but the rewards of a small HP gain and cool intake sound are well worth it.

Good Luck!!

Default how does it come out

Ok, looked behind the air filter box and found a black plactic elbow. I assume that's the silencer.
How does it come out. Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do?

Remove the stock airbox assembly to expose the three nuts that hold the silencer in place. Remove the nuts and the silencer will come out the front of the fender. It will ultimately drop out the bottom of your car, behind the air dam. It will take some take and working it around, but eventually with enough elbow grease and patience, it will come out.

Good Luck!!
