Thumbs up ON CLOUD 9!!!!! 815 HORSEPOWER!

Well, as some of you may recall last June I finally got my motor back after 2 years of anticipation.

The day I was set to go to the track I was testing my line lock when noises erupted from the new engine. Further exploring I found a broken pushrod as a result of the motor not oiling at the top of the motor, negligence of the engine builder. Further inspection and disassambly it was found that:

1) Head gaskets were installed upside down
2) Connecting rods were on BACKWARDS
3) Oil line to the top of the motor was not connected to the right port
4) Incorrect intake was used for my application.
5) Oiling hole was not drilled at the back of the block thus not letting oil reach the cylinder heads

All of this money and all of these problems from a ???PROFESSIONAL??? engine builder (whos name I won't disclose unless someone is considering having any work done in Oklahoma City).

Anyway, I sent it all off to Bennett Racing in Alabama. Talked to John Bennett this morning and he just completed the dyno session that yielded:

815 hp and 600 lbs. of torque

Can you believe it?? This horsepower is the most they have seen out of a set-up such as mine by 40hp!!!

I don't know, I'm just happy that FINALLY this thing has come together and with the power levels it has. This should put me at the brink of 8's naturally aspirated in a 3000lb car, hope I can get it down the track!! (Good problem to have)

Anyway, hats off to John Bennett of Bennett Racing.

Sorry so long folks but I'm really happy right now and wanted to share my experiences with you. Time to upgrade my sig. now!

HOLY ****!

Congrats on that new motor, Kevin. We know you've been waiting a long time on it. I hope you told that first engine builder what he could do with himself.

Anyway, that car is going to be insane. You gonna try it on the street for fun?

I've got plans in the works for a 4-cyl. - 393 conversion with a little help from a turbo. 'Course, that's still a few years off(gotta get the masters and get a job first).

Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted.

CRAP!!!!! 815 hp, 600 ft/lbs torque!! That's just plain scary dude. Right now, I don't think I could handle a car like that. Even if I were just to crank it up, I'd probably get a heart attack from its response.

Nathan - I will play with it on the street, but not too much as I won't have an air cleaner and it will probably only get .5 miles per gallon with th 1150 carb I will now be running.

lx mike

Believe me, I wish there were a way but I think it would be one persons word against another. I will spread the word about this idiot, hopefully that will make a difference. At least that will make me feel better.

Skyman

Actually, this made peak horsepower at 8000 rpm but carried well all the way up to 8400. I will have the dyno figures Monday but it carried its torque and about 750 hp from 6400 to 7500. Looking forward to seeing the actual numbers.

I will send you the P.M. with the guys business. Sure I will give you a ride and no you won't need to pay me. Actually my sister lives in Tulsa and I plan to go down some time and run my car. Will hook up and go for a spin. And no, won't have to strap you to the roll cage as I still have the full interior in the car, even the heater. I have a feeling I will be dumping the heater soon though.

Question

Kevin, was that the same shop we were talking about that did my uncle's Boss 302 engine? His Boss took out an oil pump early on, and generally never did perform the way he thought it should.

Makes me wonder.

Kell - I remember that now and yes it is the same guy. So you're saying the 302 has had problems also? Totally torques me off. I know what you mean about not performing the way it should. My motor dynoed at his place with 658hp. Bennett got the 815hp by changing the cam and intake, nothing else to significant. That is a difference of 157.

Sorry to hear about that Kell.

Unhappy

I'll let my Uncle know about this. He actually sold the Boss because he wasn't happy with the engines performance, so there isn't much left for him to do. I will pass the information along to him though.

He had been searching for a Boss for years, probably about 15 years to be exact, and seriously looking for at least 5. I really hope he didn't sell his dream because of an engine builder making it not live up to expectations.

Thanks for the info Kevin.

My dad has also had terrible luck with engine builders, he had his (now my) 427 rebuilt by a pro who put the cam bearings in backwards. You can imagine what the sudden loss of all oil pressure led to. Yep burnt rods. I myself have had very poor luck with "the pros" on stuff as simple as a clutch job some years ago.

No, that is the motor only. I won't put any nitrous on until next year, if any at all. The motor will be here today and I will try and get some pictures posted in a day or two
