331 Combo In The Works
Another How will It Work Post!
I'm installing a 331 Short Block with Keith Black Flat Top Hyper Pistons (6.5 Valve Reliefs, 10.25 CR). E-Cam, adjustable idle plate, stock GT-40 Irons (Surfaced ,Valve Job), 1.7 RR, High Volume Melling Oil Pump, King Cobra Clutch, the usual bolt ons, Off Road H, Shortys, Flowmasters and Stock 24lb injectors. The engine is going in my 1994 Cobra (hence the GT-40 heads, cant afford new ones) with the crappy stock J4J1 Computer. The accesories are all being reused on the new combo. Hope the computer allows it to run with the CR until I can afford the tune. Just about out of $ what other parts should be added to get the most out of this combo N/A ? Any suggestions or anyone with a similar combo? I have used the search extensively and have found nothing with this combo. End Goal is to get over 300 at rear wheels and put the Cobra into the low 13's high 12's. It ran 14.20 at 96.xx with gears (3.73) and full exhaust. Would like to slowly add the finishing touches, (Bigger Mass Air,TB,etc) as money allows. What order and what parts should be added to maximize the combo? Thanks |

Re: 331 Combo In The Works
The Cobra lower is a choke point, like the stock lower but to a lesser degree (see link in my signature), so get the lower ported or go to a larger cross section intake, whichever you can get done most reasonable since money is tight.

Re: 331 Combo In The Works
T-moss is right I seen big gains from buying a ported cobra lower.
And my engine is a 302 not A 331.

Re: 331 Combo In The Works
Thanks Guys, Good Call on that one! I figure the heads will be ported or replaced in the summer as they are a limiting factor. TMoss whats a ballpark on a port job on a lower? It will give me another thing to put on my to do list for spring.
My first goal will be a dyno tune & chip or a tweecer to retune the J4J1 computer.
