Post Brake Problem

Excuse my ignorance. I am not a mechanic but I am trying to do some of this on my own. I have a '67 coupe with a 289. After having a front brake job done a few weeks ago the brakes worked great. However, now the pressure bleeds off slowly when sitting at a red light, etc. Does this sound like a Master Cylinder problem? How can I tell what needs to be replaced? Help.

If there are no leaks, then it's the master cylinder.

Rev, thanks for your reply. Another question. There are no leaks so I suppose it is the master cylinder. I have two repair manuals, a Chilton's and a Haynes. The Haynes indicates that I have to remove the switch from the brake pedal and slide the pushrod, washers and bushes from the brake pedal pin. The Chilton's indicates only that I need to disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder, remove the nuts connecting the master cylinder to the booster and pull the thing out. Which is correct? If I don't have to mess around under the dash that is OK with me. Thanks again. E

I just did the power booster on my '68 which is the same as a '67. You can replace the master cylinder by unbolting it from the power booster. No under the dash work. Changing the power booster is where that comes in.

Be sure to bleed the master cylinder before connecting the break lines otherwise you've got a lot of air to bleed.
