Went to the Drags yesterday, what do you think?
i took my 02 to a 1/8 track yesterday. 92 has a rear main leaking problem. This is only my 2nd time ever racing. the first run, i ran a 9.6 at 74 mph. my reaction time is horrible, 1.293 on that run. the car is completely stock except for an k&n. tires spun clear through the 60ft mark. the 60ft time was 2.312. second time, 9.587 at 73.61, reaction .926 (getting better) 60ft 2.291. lots of fun. can an estimated 1/4 mile time be calculated from these numbers.

9.50=14.82
9.60=14.98 These are approximations of what you would run with another 1/8th mile left. They can vary either way dependant on any number of things. Your 60 fts are horrible. Try to practice leaving a little softer. With your mile per hour, you should be running about what my convertible runs. It runs 9.30's(14.51 in 1/4 approximately) fairly consistently with 2.0 60 foots on street tires. Your car is spinning too much. If you can work on leaving, you should be able to run some high 9.30's even 9.40(14.66 in 1/4)'s with 2.1 60 fts. Good luck, James

Agreed...I think you'll have a lot better luck with some practice and a little softer launch. But all in all it's not bad at all for your 2nd time out. Just keep plugging away at it.

Once you start getting your 60 ft times down, your ET's will drop significantly.

start by getting your rt's down, 1.293??? rip van winkle didnt sleep that long(lol). then work on your 60ft times. one thing at a time. as important as the 60ft times are, the rt is more important, as you can make up a bit of a deficit on the 60ft times, but it is very hard to make up an rt deficit.

R/T doesnt change the ET... clocks dont start till you move
try changing the RPM you launch at, and maybe ride the clutch some off the line

What are you running --- manual or auto?
Are you running straight through the waterbox or are you getting completely around it? Since (I assume) you are on street tires, don't even go near the water! But, b4 you get to the starting line, spin your tires over a bit (very small burnout--- not really a burnout b/c you really don't wanna heat up the tires much at all-- just enough to clean off all the leftover rubber and dirt on the track from other cars' slicks and/or drag radials). You shouldn't be spinning out to the 60 ft mark. THat is just a waste of time and gas. It is likely you are running through the waterbox (maybe not... i dunno, but likely). If possible, get yourself some Nitto Drag radials (NT-555R). Those are the best drag radials to drive on the street with good wet traction (get the BFGs if you want a better dragstrip radial at the cost of less street traction and less street life). You'll feel a BIG diff with the Nitto DRs than on street tires. If I were working at it, I wouldn't focus too much right now on reaction time (for reason already stated by Dark Knight). Work on getting up to the starting line with clean, dry tires and getting a great launch. Also, stage as shallow as possible (when the first light on the tree comes on as you roll forward, creep a LITTLE until exactly when the second light comes on and STOP). You have about 5-7 inches until that second light goes off, but you don't wanna use that extra room.

you have to back up to the water box. yea i stayed away from that. your right i should of have cleaned my tires a little. the track has horrible traction. guys running slicks couldn't hook up. i think i got a little excited at the line and launched to hard because i did almost spin through the 60ft. i really need to work on my lauches.
