How to tell Cleveland heads

Hello,

I was out behind my uncles house this weekend and i found some heads that looked to be for a 351w block but they had really big valves and i don't think they were machined. How could i tell if they are cleveland heads? There was no intake manafold around so i couldn't look at that. Thanks for any help

Cleveland heads have canted valves. This means that they aren't lined up in a neat, straight line, like the 351W, but appear to be staggered. You'd know as soon as you saw a pair.

There will also be 8 valve cover bolts in cleveland heads VS 6 valve cover bolts in Windsor heads. Also check parts on E-bay and do a search for 351 + cleveland or 351 + Windsor and someone will likely have pictures of heads forsale so you can compare.

It depends on a number of factors.

Are the Warped? Cracked? 2v or 4v heads? Year?

I understand 70 closed chamber 4v heads to be worth the most. Find a casting number and let us know. I'd be in the marked for some nice big ol cleveland heads myself.

In case you don't know, you can tell whether they're 2V or 4V heads by looking at the corner. There will be a 2 or 4 cast into the top surface outside the valve cover.

Also the closed chamber heads have small combustion chambers. Thus the term closed chamber. those are the ones you want. Oh another thing, in case you really lucked out. Are the rocker arm studs press in or are they threaded for screw in studs. If you have threaded ones you might have a set of BOSS heads. Also be careful, Boss302 heads look very similar to Cleveland heads. What are the casting numbers. Thats the only way to be really sure
