What can you tell me from my times?
I went to the track Wendnesday. I wasen't too happy with my times but after my last trip running a 15.8 with a bad tranny at least this time I didn't want to cry. I know I need to bump my timing and I dont know how to launch my new t-5. I was told with my combo I should be running low 14s to high 13s. Is it just my driving or am I loosing power?

As I'm sure you know, your 60' times need a little work - ok, alot of work.
How are you launching now? Maybe just try taking the rpms to around 2500 - 3000 and slipping the clutch out. This should get your 60' down considerably. Maybe not the best thing for the longevity of the clutch, but a few times wont hurt it that much. Also, your mph is indicitive of lower ET potential. You should be able to run mid-low 14's. What 60' time should I be shooting for?
I was just dumping he clutch and bringing up the rpms. I didn't know any better. My first run was with the timing at 12 then a guy dropped it down to 10 to see what it would do. I was going to bring it up to 14 after but could not find the guy with the timeing gun. If my first run was a 14.5 what do you think I could get if I knew how to drive it? |

In my first post I only saw your last run (the one with the 2.5 60'). The 2.2 60' on street tires isn't that bad at all, but I'm sure you could still improve it.
With a 92 vert, full exhaust and 4.10's, you should be able to lay down some really low 14's on a good weather day. I wouldn't just dump the clutch with street tires - way too much tire spin could result. Try the slip-of-the-clutch method and see how you do. Also, are you powershifting? Speedshifting? ya, a 2.2 isn't bad, get some control arms and you can bring that down a little bit. the only thing i can say on launching is don't spin. you have to practice and find how high you can launch without spinning.

Here's is the advise I give to everyone I talk to at the track that is new to it. Just leave like you are leaving a stop light. Start by leaving at idle, then as you get more practice, up the rev's to 1500, then 2000, etc. You can cut 2.0-2.1's fairly easily with street tires with practice. The problem most people have when they are new to running at the track is that they want to run there best time, and if they leave at or near idle, they think that they will run slower times, but this isn't true. Now, I know of a few people that have mastered 5000 rpm launches on street tires which result in 1.9 60's, but that comes with tons and tons of practice, not to mention killng your clutch. The highest I ever launched on my 245-50-16 H rated kelly street tires was 2000rpms, I'd slip the clutch to negate wheelspin, and I would in turn cut 2.08-2.09 60's. Like I said, to get that time down, leave a lot softer, and don't dump the clutch, but don't slip it too much either. BTW- I ran a best ET of 14.30 at 96.7mph on street tires with a 2.08 60'. Adding nitto DR's dropped me to a 13.83 at 98.55mph with 1.91 60's.
