Problems with clutch. Need help ASAP please!
I hope someone can help me with this. I was crusing down the road today and all of a sudden BOOM no gears! I put in the clutch and tried to get it back in and nothing. I could actually spin the shifter around in a circle. It wouldnt engage at all. I managed to get it off the road and have it towed.
I'm guessing the problem is that the shifter became detached from the clutch somehow. I'm guessing there's a pin or something that holds the shifter to the clutch. What's the best way to approach this? What I figure I'll have to do is take the shifter assembly apart and try to re-connect it. Has this happened to anyone before? It's a centerforce clutch and it was working fine. Could it be the pin just slipped out or could it have snapped? Anyone that can help me with this, I'd appreciate it. Also, if anyone lives in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of Pa who has a little more experience with 5.0's could help me, I'll buy you a case of beer or something. |

No one heard of this?
Well, I took the shifter off today to see what was going on. I get the shifter off and the part that the ball fits into is just sliding up and down the shaft. It didn't have any resistence to it at all. Does this mean my tranny is shot or just the clutch is junk? I was having a vibration right before this happened. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'd appreciate your help. I want to know what I'm looking at in ways of repairing it. Otherwise my stang is just going to be sitting in front of my parent's house. Thanks! |

Sounds like tranny issues to me. Make sure the clutch cable is still hooked to the clutch fork at the bell housing and that is it still attached under the dash to thw quadrant. If your pedal has no tension it is the cable, either at the fork or the quadrant.
With the shifter attached to the tranny does it go into gear, you should be able to shift it with out using the clutch with the car off. If it does not shift then it the tranny for sure, maybe your imput shaft let go. ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension, SPEC stage III clutch, Lakewood SFI bell, S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! <B |

Well, the clutch pedal still feels the same that it did before the car took a dump.
I have no gears at all. I tried messing with the peice that the ball connects to and it wasnt grabbing a thing. Just slid all over the place. BTW, which Hanover are you from? Around Wilkes-Barre or Allentown? |

Didn't realize there were 2 Hanovers? I am right below New Oxford, East of York.
If your clutch pedal feels the same then it is not the quadrant. I think your tranny is gone, maybe the imputshaft shattered, I have done that to 3 of them so far. I bought all my parts from D&D or Hanlon both nice guys to deal with. I can rebuild the tranny $250 in labor if your interested. Take a look at the topic titled T-5 rebuild whats the going rate..I listed the prices of the parts you'll need if the imput shaft did let loose. Shoot me a e-mail rhawver@strouse.com. My monitor at home died so I can't check my e-mail at home which is Rick91GT@onemain.com. ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension, SPEC stage III clutch, Lakewood SFI bell, S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! <B |
