Default ce in 3.55 and 3.73 gears?

just wondering the difference in 1/4 mile times (if any) between these two gears. my 89 had 3.73's and my 90 has 3.55's. with all the mods my 90 has, the 89 feels so much more quicker throught first and second gear. itt actually throws you back in the seat pretty good. the 90 with 3.55's doesnt feel as quick to me from start. i know the 90 should kill the 89, but does anyone know if there is a difference between the gears in the 1/4 mile? if so, i may switch to 3.73's thanks-

You Feel harder accelleration with 37's, but time difference not much, or any, my friend went 373 to 410 and saw no e.t. gain, but it felt snappier on takeoff, if you swap gears, get 410 to feel a bigg difference, might get a tenth at the track, with slicks the more gear the better at the track.

3.73s are a little quicker than 3.55s...but I've had both & you can't tell that much of a difference. I think the difference that you are feeling is that the car you bought with the Holley Systemax combo on it with heads/cam/intake...your powerband has changed. Your '89 with the stock motor in it produces tons of torque and can really snap your neck back when nailed at low rpms, especially with the 3.73s. Your new motor probably doesn't make as much torque as the '89 motor does at low rpms...between 1500-2500. But once you get the motor in the '90 up to 3000+rpms...that's when it makes all the power! And obviously the power in the '90 motor continues on up way higher in the rpm range than the '89 stock 302, pulling hard to 6000rpms or maybe even a tad higher. 3.73s would better suit your Holley combination. Or if your car sees a lot of track time (1/4 mile) & not as much street use...you could go for the 4.10s.

3.55's are the absolute worst gear other than stock. I would rather have 3.27's than 3.55's

The reason being that you end up hitting 4th gear just as you are crossing the line and that hurts your ET.

I dont know dark50, i have never driven 3.55, but that's what my 3.27's do, i seem to hit my shift point right befor i cross, and im running out of rpm in 3rd, but going to 4th will cause me to coast over the line, all in all i think i do pretty well with these, im getting off the line rather quickly for the ratio it has.
i do know when i swap, it will be 37, or 410.

I like the 3.55's in mine, 6100 thru the traps in 3rd gear...
tire size has a big effect on the ration too..

I also ran 4.30's too..they pulled HARD off the line..but freeway driving sucked.. went thru the traps at the same rpm.. but in 4th..
not a big difference in ET though..
