Post SportsRoof or Mach 1??? HELP!

Well, I started thinking after reading 1969Mach1's post about his Mach. And I'm wondering if my car is a Mach 1 or just a plain ole fastback. The info tag on the driver's door is gone, that's what is causing me problems. It has the Mach 1 high back buckets, black with red accent, and Mach 1 carpet, black with red inserts. But it does not have any wood grain dash parts, or the Mach 1 door panels. It has regular standard door panels.

Is there anything I can check to find out for sure which it is without the info tag on driver's door?

Here's the vin if that helps any: 9F02F221255.

TIA. Much appreciated.

I've been told the Mach 1 has the little half-a-moon slots in the back for the exhaust to come out. Looks like this. lol
That is one way I was told of telling.

It says it means Sportsroof because they changed the name to that from Fastback that year. There is no real "fastback" offered in 1969. It's the Sportsroof. There are 2 hyphens going through the fastback section of 1969.

By the way, I DO have the exhaust slots in the rear valance. But these valances are swapped very easily and ones like these can be purchased and put on.

I know for 70 that the vin for fastback and mach one were different because all mach ones are fast backs but not all fast backs are not mach ones. I think that 69 is the same but would not swear to it.

One real quick and easy well to tell is all the mach 1s have a clock in the dash of the passenger side. Alot of the other stuff is interchange able. I have some of the mach 1s on my car even though it is a sportsroof and not a mach 1. There is not a different vin number for a fastback or the mach one they are both 02s. What u really need is the body code cuz a 63B will have the luxury seats like a mach 1 but it is just standard sportsroof. 63C is the mach 1 code. But like i said look for the clock in the dash on the passenger side u cant miss it they are big. If u have that then it is a mach 1 for sure.

Thanks guys. I was thinking it was just a fastback. There is no clock in the dash. I wish that damn tag was still on the door. That ticks me off when motards take those things off. They did it on my coupe too.

Thanks for all the help.

The second F in the VIN indicates the car originally had a 2V 302. AAnd I don't believe the Mach 1's came with anything smaller than a 351. Dont' worry, my car has a door tag but it has a different VIN number than what is on the dash VIN. My car has every bell and whistle to make it a mach but unfortunately by the VIN I can tell it was produced with the 250 I6 motor.(definitely not a true mach but looks just as cool) Don't stress too much, it's still a classic mustang!!!!! Oh yeah, a true mach's rear fender vents actually vent down to the rear brakes for cooling.(So I've been told)

Sorry Dave,
Even Mach's did not come with the vents being functional, maybe a shelby but not a Mach. The Mach package was mainly a cosmetic upgrade to make it look more impressive. As far as the clock goes that is true if you have the round woodgrain one, I have a black rectangular clock on my sportsroof deluxe and it is not a Mach.

Clark, is it possible that my car was totaled and then salvaged or something way back when and re-registered with a VIN # that indicates a non mach VIN. I have the woodgrain dash and and the round clock on the passenger side. And it even has what looks to be the factory installed wiring going to the gauges and clock. But it has that "F" in the VIN. ?????

David,
I am not sure if I understand your question the "F" stands for the Dearborn plant but this is my vehicle code:9RO2M102413
9= 1969
R= San Jose Plant
02= Sportsroof
M= 351-4V
102413= Unit number
If yours is a Mach it should have the code 05 instead of 02. Also check the door tag as well, because I have a Sportsroof Deluxe and this meant I have the deluxe interior which includes the rectangular clock. The original owner also ordered my car with the front spoiler and louvers but did not like the rear wing so they left it off. What this means is the options can vary from car to car.

I'm sorry, my VIN is 9F02F...... So it is probably not a mach. And I'm pretty sure it has had a different door put on because the warranty number on the door plate doesn't match the VIN. It also has 5 lug wheels with 10" drums all the way around which I thought would indicate it was at least a V8 car. But that would contradict that second F in the VIN. Anyway, I'll figure it out one day, until then I will just have fun owning it. I think someone actually spent alot of time and effort converting it over to a V8 car. Thanks for the input.

Question

David Fulford- Can you send me some pictures of your car? My coupe was painted canary yellow and looked awesome. I am planning on painting the fastback the same exact color using Dupont IMRON paint again.

Email to ben_schmitt@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Pretty darn nice car. I think I'm gonna get both the front and rear spoilers, along with the rear window louvers. All black. I like the wheels you have. The Cragar DragStars, the ones you have, and my Centerline AutoDrags are my 3 favorite wheels.

I'll be sure to get some pics up of my car when it's done in a few months. Thanks for responding.
