Question Need help w/ 11 sec. '86 Stang

I have an '86 LX Notch. It is set up for a 351W. It is my first big project so any suggestions on how I can get into the 11's would be great.

Get rid of excess weight. Build a strong motor. Reinforce the chassis and get stronger driveline parts for your car. Get a pair of slicks. A naturally aspirated 351 should be able to get you the 11's.

You want it carbed? or fuel injected? well i say go with some dart aluminum heads, perhaps some trickflows, f-cam, or the crane cam .533 lift or more, longtube headers, 3 in exhst, is it gonna be 5spd or auto? either way use 4.10-4.56 rear gears, if an auto, use a stall cvtr 3500 or more, maybe a 9in rear, some full slicks, and if carbed go with a 750 holley mechanical secondaries, and edelbrock victor intake, or stealth single plane.

better yet, just make it streetable, but with a 150 shot of nos and some e.t. streets.

90dpscoupe has some good suggestions. Alot also depends on if you want the car to be streetable (ie. good gas mileage, throttle response, good road manors). As far as aluminum heads go, no they will not make more power over a set of iron heads, but they will save weight, hence allowing your car to accelerate faster. Give us some more info as what you want out of the car besides 11 second ET's.

I would like the car to be streetable, but not daily driven so I really am not concerned with gas mileage etc. It already has a 9" rearend, and C-6 tranny. I would like to run NOS. And it's carbed.

you should get the torque boxes welded up, and also get a 6-8 point roll cage (the drag strip will require that), plan to get them both done at once because you have to disasemble the entire interior to do it. What sort of suspension do you have right now? what is the bottom end in the motor right now? if your ok with the nitrous way, then its as easy as that, just get a system, plate or multiport, and tune away.

I would go for the 4.10 gears hey dinomite
are you sure you have to have a roll cage for that speed i swear i have seen some at the track that are faster with out the roll cage but i could be wrong....hmmmm

As far as i know NHRA requires anthing running 11.99 or faster requires a 6 point cage.
