Post C4 speedo cable leaking

Just to double check before I go under the car...these things have an O-ring to them right? I know it's not loose. Any sealing tips? THanks.

I think you're right about the O-ring seal. That clip just retains the cable and speedo gear in the tranny. Don't over tighten that little bolt either and break it off like I did. It was a b!tch to get out with an easy-out under the car.

What about those pan bolts? I have a slight leak from the bolts and the gasket. Could I put teflon tape on them?

Those are other ones that you don't want to over tighten as they can break off easily. Sometimes it looks like those are leaking when they may not be. The shifter shaft I think has an O-ring and maybe the downshift shaft as well. Also there's an O-ring where the dip stick tube enters the tranny case. All these are potential leak sites. Then there's also the cooling lines that come and go to the radiator. It's very difficult to determine the actual leak origin. I've spent hours under there and still not found where these pesky leaks come from.

If the pan is leaking, tightening the bolts probably won't do any good, nor will teflon. But, as long as you're there, why not pull the pan and change the filter? With the pan off, check it for straight edges (people tightening the bolts trying to stop leaks often bend the pan, causing the leaks to get worse), and correct as necessary. Install a new gasket and refill. Just don't over tighten the pan bolts!

Take care

You might want to check where the metal housing is crimped onto the outer tubing. I had one leak there. It took me forever to actually find it.
