99' Camaro Z28 vs. 00' GT
Two weeks ago my buddy went to the Ont.(CA) street races and hooked up a race for $10.00 with a 99' Z28. My buddy has a 93' Talon AWD Turbo that runs high 13's. They raced and my friend smoked him from take off to finish. The guy in the camaro was pissed and refused to pay . They blew it off(cause it wasn't worth arguing for ten bucks)and went about their business. Last Friday,(same place, same time)the same guy hit me up for a race after seeing my license plate cover, "Eating up Chevys;Shi..ing out Hondas" , but I turned it down. As they started walking away I heard them talking trash about Fords and his 300rwhp to my 230 in addition to making a comment about racing for my LP cover so you know I had to run him. So I called him back and said lets run.
We lined up and he got the jump on me(I had a horrible start). But thanks to my gears I caught up quick and we were dead even down the track. We decided to run again and this time I got a good launch and pulled about a half a car on him in first. I shifted to second and pulled about another half. We remained at that distance all the way thru. We both parked and he came over and said,"What the heck do you have in that thing? I beat mustangs all the time!" I told him it was stock minus the gears, pulleys,& exhuast which really pissed him off. Hopefully, he took it as a learning experience. Don't underestimate a Stang. ------------------ 00'GT,(S281 clone),3 chamber flows,K&N filter,BBK underdrive pulleys & 3.73 gears. No time slip as of yet(est.13.7-13.9) |

Never underestimate the POWER of a FORD.
Nice Kill. You know, thats the number one thing I hear from every none Mustang owner. "I can eat up Mustangs all day." or "Havent been beaten by a Mustang yet." even "Mustangs aint crap, I dust em." The truth is, they've been anihalated by Mustangs so bad that it sucked the memory out of them as they went by. Why are we used for the Bench mark of Street Racing? Or the Comparison point. You always hear ricers, importers, GM guys being asked "Will it beat a Mustang?" [This message has been edited by Mercury (edited 07-25-2001).] |

Are you sure this was a V8 camaro and not a v6. These are faster than a 00 GT. And with the mods you list, there is no way you are gonna take a 98 and newer z28. Are you sure it wasnt an lt1? 97 or older? The only way it could happen is if the guy doesnt know how to drive his car at all. Please dont take this as a flame. It is not intended in that manner.

WrathChild.
The 99+ GT's have alot more balls than a pre 99 SN95, in stock form. It VERY possible to hand a LS-1 guy his a$$ if hes not 100 percent on his game. I've got friends who post here that i hang out with (They post once every blue moon) that have seen me take out, on several occasions, LS-1's. Some one who works with me had a 2000 Z28, T-Tops, and Auto. Me and him raced, I beat him. After I beat him, he sold it a few weeks later and bought a 98 Cobra. ------------------ 64 1/2 "D" code Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, Mallory duel point. Hey Wrathchild,
No disrespect taken or intended. Like Merc said, the 99'-01' are pretty damn fast bone stock. And yes it was a 99' Z28. In addition I heard the Camaro's are a heck of alot harder to launch. About two months ago I raced an 00'SS and I pulled on him in first and second gear by atleast a car,but when we went into third he pulled on me by a car and a half. Three times we tried this and we had the same result. After that night I just knew I could hang with a Z28. And now I just proved it and then some. So if you doubt the power of my stang, no problem, but I suggest you go test drive a 2001;you won't be disappointed. ------------------ 00'GT,(S281 clone),3 chamber flows,K&N filter,BBK underdrive pulleys & 3.73 gears. I have test drove them. I have a friend who has a 2000 convertable, another who has a 2001 coupe, and another who just bought a bullet. What i am going by is what i see at the track. Most, now this is most, GT's are running anywhere from 14.3 to 13.9. This is stock or not far from stock. The LS1's are running anywhere from 13.8 to 13.2. The same for the LS1's, stock or not far from. I have also beaten LS1's. Now if you could put the same exact driver in an LS1 and in a 99+ GT the Ls1 is going to win. I really dont care for the LS1 but, gotta love that they are this fast right from the dealer. I wouldn't trade my stang for any LS1 powered car. For the amount that i would pay for the LS1 i could have a car that runs 10's and probably pull close to 1g on a skidpad. Again, not intended to flame. Back to your original post. Good kill man.

I never personally raced a newer Camaro, but I do know that they put out 50 more cubic inches then my car and almost 70 more then the 4.6. I also think (but not positive) that they're geared higher too, so they do move, but they're not unbeatable. From my experience, the driver makes the race, not the car.. nice kill!!

I drove two SS's one stock one not, about one month ago, and I was not real impressed. They were both 6-speeds. About the gearing, I think they can get an optional 3:42 from the factory. But I have read several web sites, and 4:10's are the way to go, they say a Real seat in the pants feel. And knock .3+ off E/T's. Yeah I get tempted to try and buy one, but since I can see about half the engine...nah! =P

I believe the story. Most street races last about an 1/8 mi. I went to the track yesterday and saw LS1's running mid 14's and a C5 run 13.9 (got pictures too). And they may even be modded! Who knows!! Also a 96-98 Cobra I ran against ran 14.8 @ 103!!! Anything can happen on the street!

Good job..
I agree with Leadsled on this one. Any pushrod engine seems easier to work on than this 4.6. Everything seems so complicated with it and that just makes me not want to tear into the engine at all. I'm planning to replace the pistons and rods in the car but it is so damn expensive I'm not sure which way to go. Is a kit better than a built SHM 5.0 block? I don't know but either way isn't cheap. Very few people can work on it or can be considered experts. It looks like if I want security that it will be done right, I'll have to go to Canada to get it done.. ------------------ formerly 96cobra89lx306 (96Cobra/softtop-3.73,almdrvsht,fancontrl,steeda sbfrmes+shifter,eibachspgs,KYB's,FR-upper arms,Saleen copy-polished 18's,pulleys,Bassani X pipe(gutted),C&L 80mm Cobra DYNO 301rwhp horsepower before gutting the X pipe 93 Ford Probe Gt(slower but turns) |
