Plug wire size

Okay, this is probably a no-brainer question but I won't have my car for a couple of days so I can't compare wire sets. I just ordered the Crane Cams Firewire 8.5mm plug wires for my 96GT (thanks to the post mentioning the blowout sale I got two sets). What is the stock size in mm's? Are the 8.5mm going to fit my looms or will I have to widen them out with a dremel or something? Like I said, kind of a no-brainer, but i'm curious. The new wires look kickass.

I'm pretty sure the stock wires are 8mm.
I'm using 9mm wires, so I had to "modify" the stock looms and get some ford motorsport looms to "pretty" it up along the sides.

I think you'll be fine with the stock looms with 8.5mm. If not, you can always go the same route I did...

Will larger wires help performance on an engine with a stock ingition system?

I wouldn't think so but maybe. It would stand to reason there would be a little more spark transfer but I don't know. I got them not for the larger size but because they were $20 a set (compared to the usual $100). I doubt i'll gain anything but i'm sure it won't hurt performance.

Just so you know the stock wires are 8mm. It might help a little bit with spark flow thru the larger wire, but it won't be noticed on a stock engine. Just look at it as an upgrade for future mods in which it will help make a difference.

Larger wires will make absolutely NO difference in performance. The thicker diameter is strictly thicker insulation around the core. That's it. The only advantage to that is better resistance to arcing. If that's not a problem with 8mm wires, than it won't make any difference with bigger wires.
