Who will make more power..vortech-vs-Ati ProCharger
a friend and I are getting our cars dyno tuned at Laroccas coming up next week. I'd like a guess of who will make more power on the dyno w/our setups. Here goes.
1) 95 cobra, Stage II GT40X heads 9.5:1 compression, E303 1.72 rockers .535 lift, hooker equal length headers 1 3/4, bbk hpipe, flowmaster mufflers, D1SC ProCharger 11-13psi, 3 Core intercooler, Pro-m75 bullet, 65mm TB, MSD 6AL, Kirban AFPR, 255 intank pump, External boost pump, 50lb MSD injectors, stock cobra intake 2) 93lx TFS heads box stock, B303 cam, Stock cobra intake, Vortech SQ-trim 10-11psi, bbk shorty headers, pacesetter hpipe, flowmaster mufflers, 80mm Pro-m mass air, 65mm TB, MSD 6BTM-6AL, 42lb inj, FMU, 190lph intank, and T-rex. I am shooting for 475rwhp in my car w/ the ProCharger, and he wants 425-450rwhp w/ the Vortech..So in reality who is gonna make more power overall? I think Car 1 should have the most Is the 65MM TB a bit small for those cars not that I would know.

Stang runner, your right, the 65mm TB's are a bit small for our applications, however I've heard of cars going well in the 10's w/ a 65mm unit, and to be quite honest. I don't know what kind of power I would pick up from a switch to a 70mm,,maybe 5hp or so? Just my opinion though.
Any more thoughts on these two cars? Dan |

I think your power estimates are pretty accurate, the Cobra should be able to turn those numbers with the higher compression and boost. You might even outdo that estimate (depends on tune I suppose).

I'm not sure who will win(hope the procharger car does though), but I would choose a Procharger if I could afford a blower. Nothing against Vortech, I just think ATI makes a better engineered product.

Another vote for the ProCharged Stang. Sounds like that is a pretty killer setup.

His intercooler will be what propells him bast you....invest in an aftercooler, and you will be up there....maybe around 500.
The guy that dynoes my car has a 94 GT with Holley systemmax Intakes, AFR 165's, TFS 3 cam, exhaust, and all the other goodies. He just put a Novi 2000 with 11 psi, and hit 508 rwhp. Thanks for the support guys. I really hope I can make some good power. If he makes more than I, or the other way around its not gonna really bother either one of us. I just have a set goal for the power output that I would like, and know what I am after as far as performance.
One of the reasons I posted this is due to him referring to ProChargers as unreliable. No so much in direct words, but just in the way he compares the two. I will keep you all posted on the kind of #'s we both make, whether it be good or bad. SaleenGTS, you are right about the intake holding me back. I wanted to get the intake match ported to the heads, I just never bothered doing this. I was in a rush so to speak to get the blower on, then was running into alot of different problems w/ parts breaking, car not starting etc. I am not doubting you by any means, I just don't think that the 65mm TB is going to hold back that much power Now the intake, yes I would agree that I could prolly pick up a good 15-20rwhp by having the lower gutted to match the ported heads. well thanks again guys. My friend James who owns Race Related in Clearwater Florida doesn't like Pro Chargers. He's been racing stangs 4 15 years and he swears by Vortech. I'm planning on gettin a T trim soon. With the right pully I should be hitting 600 (see signature)

Neither of you 2 are going to make the power that I have with Nitrous. Ditch those chargers and get the gas... Just kidding Dan. I also agree with you Dan that there are cars deep into the 10s that are only running 65mm TBs. I think you will meet your goal in the HP. Good luck.

hey Bill,
thanks for the support on this. I certainly hope that this gets me where I want. See, its seems as though the guy w/ the 93lx doesnt think he'll make good power, I tell him he will, and this is pretty much the whole purpose of this post Actually when you talk about going w/ the gas, if the blower doesnt work out, and gives me alot of trouble, I'm calling Bennett Racing to build me a 347 stroker motor for a 150 shot of nitrous..And the ProCharger will be sold. But this is only if the current combo gives me grief. later Dan |

You didn't mention transmissions, so I'll assume both cars have T-5's. Anyway, Car #1 will make more power. NOT because the ATI is better, or because of the intercooler. Simply because Car #2 has one of the worst cam shafts (B-303) you can get for a supercharged application.

well the lx ended up dynoing at 435rwhp, and 399.5ft/lb of torque w/ an 11:1 a/f ratio, power flex 2, and 11 lbs of boost.
My cobra on the other hand ended up breaking something in the tranny..not sure what, only makes alot of noise when letting out on the clutch, so I thought I had better not take it up. So now I have to wait till august 27th. My bad luck! I tell you. oh, btw, both have T-5's later Dan |
