Question Exhaust tips

Does anyone have any good methods for polishing up or returning the stainless steel tips on the exhaust to showroom condition? Mine have some stains and imperfections that I would like to get rid of. Someone had some tips in a recent mag but I can't find the issue. Any good chems or procedures anyone has to share would be great. Thanks!

Stefan, I also read that mag. I believe it was the March issue of 5.0 Mustang, last page. I can't seem to locate it right now, but I think it said to wet sand the tips with fine grit sand paper, then use some kind of metal cleaner on them(I guess something like Brasso).
I did it to my tips and they came out looking pretty sharp. I recently replaced em' with a Mac cat-back though.

Good Luck

That was it. I must have checked all my mags but that one. Thanks for helping my search.

Just a quick note on the tips cleaning, on my stainless steel tips here is what I do. Get some WD-40, some fine steel wool and a roll of paper towels. Spray wd40 liberally on the pipe, use the steel wool to remove all grease, tar, grime, it takes everything off without scratching the pipe at all, wipe off dirt with paper towel and pipe is back to new, i usually throw some polish on there for extra detail, they come out looking great, good luck!

1997 Mustang GT -
I have Super Fine 0000 grade steel wool. Is that too coarse or will that be good to use?

Thanks for the tip.

I just polished the tips on my 96GT on the weekend. I used some Spray 9 to get the road grime and tar off. Then I wiped them down with a cloth. Then I rubbed on some Autosol polish (got it at Walmart). They're really shiny now. Just like a mirror!
