short-throw shifter prob
i got a new stang and am having a problem with the shifter. it's a Hurst and the guy that sold it to me said that it shifts really hard (it does, sucker is a pain to shift) but all i have to do to loosen it is lift up the boot and move some pins and it will shift nice and smooth. so far i've gone in their a few times and i can't find anything that resembles pins and nothing will loosen up the throw when the car is running. if anyone knows what i can do to loosen up the throw, i would really appreciate it.
thanks

He may be referring to the positive stop screws that prevent you from 'overshifting' the gears, if you will. If he's got the stop screws set out too far then the gears will not fully engage and is obviously not good for the tranny. A common issue with aftermarket shifters on Tremec 3550's per the guys at TTC.
Does this sound like what he's talking about? E

actually yes, there are 2 screws, one in the front and one in the back. so i should just move those way out and it should be ok? i thought of that but it would still look as though it would be hard to shift INTO gear, but i'll move 'em and see what happens.

Yeah do this:
Unscrew them until they are almost out. Then shift into first and see where the shifter stops. Then set the screw to that location while still in 1st - check 3rd too while you're at it. Then do the same thing for 2nd and 4th gear. This will set the stop screws at their ideal location - enough to get it in gear, and enough to stop you from overshifting during race conditions. E
