Help!! 1996 Mustang GT
Can anyone help please? I have a 96 GT and the check engine light is on. I have taken the car to a dealer and was told that the cats are plugged/bad. I do not believe that is true as there is exhaust coming out of both pipes. Any suggestions on how to fix this? The previous owner has installed an aftermarket exhaust (SuperTurbo??) and the dealer says that there should still be four cats but my car only has two. I am concerned about his because the dealer says that the car will lose about 20HP at the rear wheel when the check engine lite is on. Can i get it to go off by buying a MIL Eliminator and if so where can I buy one. Also, how does one go about resetting the computer in my car? Anyone know what to do?

Well if you only have two cats then someone has cut off the other two or its a different H-Pipe. It could be bad oxygen sensors. I dont know where this losing 20hp when the check engine light is coming from?? You can reset the computer by unhooking your battery for a couple minutes.

If you're getting an engine light on, you should be able to get a code from the computer telling which system is malfunctioning. I personally am not familiar with the modular engine diagnostic codes. Post that question in the Modular Madness forum and I'll bet you'll get lots of answers.

Yeah, running the codes is a great idea. If the cats are plugged I know I've seen some cat cleaner before.
Not sure what the catalitic converter cleaner does, or is for that matter, but it's worth a shot. |
