First time at track and I need pointers
I convinced my friend to come with me to the track just to test out and see what our cars can do since neither of us have ever raced at the track. He drives a turbo Eclipse with some nice mod's.
First of all, I have to say it was a good experience overall. A lot of people..lots of Stangs ...The only disappointment was that I ran 15.2. I know my mods aren't the best but with an aftermarket performance clutch (I dunno which brand - in the car when purchased), cold air induction and a set of underdrive pullies and a 5-speed, I was hoping on high 14's. So if neone can help me out - like how should I start..or when should I switch gears..I would really appreicate it. Thanx, a lot! Joe

I dunno...
15.2 sounds right on. What was your MPH? 60ft?
The 94-95's are heavier than the earlier cars, so you can't expect much from a stock 95 GT. The mods you have won't help more than a 10th or so. Get some gears and you will surely be in the 14's

ok...
Well that ET is not bad then. The 60ft shows that you have a problem hooking up (common problem for newbies to the track). Otherwise your driving is good. Get the 60ft down and you'll be at or close to 15.0.
I had an 87 GT and the best time I could get with it was 15.0. However the MPH was consistently 95-96. My 60 ft was around 2.1. This shows that I can't drive but the car is making enough power to be in the 14's. The car only had a full exhaust which hurt low end torque a little and my clutch was on it's way out. Keep practicing your launches and try to get the 60ft down to around 2.1 or better. Get some gears and some better control arms (Factory 5's are not bad for the cash), and you'll see mid to low 14's I think. You'd be surprised how much of a difference traction and better gearing can make

Getting your 60' down to a 2.0 would put you in the mid 14's. Invest in some drag radials and some suspension mods. Have you done any of the free mods?

Do the gears and the subframes, they're the best mods you can do right now.
The next thing is to practice and get that 60' time down on street tires, the more you get it down on street radials, the more you'll be able to improve with drag radials or slicks. No point in getting drag radials to get your 60' time down to the 2.0-2.1 when you can get it there without them.

(Could be worth at least a tenth off the et). Inflate the front tires to 45 pounds each (deflate to normal before leaving the track)! Take any unnecessary junk out of the trunk before racing or better yet, before you leave home. Change the oil/filter right before going to the track. These few things could get you to at least a 15.0, maybe a 14.9. how much would 3.55's help my time b/c i was think about getting them next along with subframe connectors? Get the subframe connectors (big rewards in traction and handling) and the 3.55's. Those, alone, would have you well in the 14's. Consider a PRO 5 0 shifter, too. Faster shifts and it lessens mis-shifts that can do real damage. |
