Question Output Shaft Speed Sensor

Has anyone ever heard of an output shaft speed sensor? The guys at SVTPerformance.com mentioned that the EEV-V not only has a limiter for the engine RPM but also for the output shaft speed. I am assuming they were talking about the transmission output shaft.
