First time ever to track: results
Well, I finally decided to drag my car out there and see what it could run. Man that is a lot of fun! The mandatory helmet rule at our track kind of sucked because we were racing into the sun and it made it hard to see the tach, but I managed. My first run ever was a 14.682 @ 94.62 mph, shifting slow and with a 2.28 60'. The rest of my 60's for the night got worse, as I tried some different launch techniques.
Only got 4 runs on the night because it was BUSY. It was also hot, and humid (75°, 75% humidity, and I'm at 2200'). My best ET on the night was as follows: R/T: 0.894 (I should have been leaving on the 2nd light instead of the 3rd) 60': 2.292 330': 6.163 1/8: 9.414 MPH: 75.71 1000': 12.221 1/4: 14.593 MPH: 94.85 Later in the night I had some time to cool it down as my first 3 runs were hot lapped, no icing intake (didn't even pop the hood) and ran the car on the staging lines. Anyways, I managed to squeak a 95.72 mph out of it. Since we're high up and bad air, I ran the numbers through a correction thingy and it works out to a 14.18 @ 98.67 mph. Not too bad for my first times ever down the strip. On my last 95.72 mph pass I hooked hard off the line but at 3 grand the tires cracked loose and I blew them off into 2nd gear Some things I'll change next time: 1) Ice the intake 2) remove rear seat, jack, and spare 3) short belt 4) Launching at idle...couldn't hook with my tight suspension to save my life 5) I may have overfilled my oil a bit on the last change but didn't have time to correct 6) Powershifting 3rd...only powershifted 4th on the last pass, and powershifting 2nd just smokes tires All in all I had a great time, and will be back before the end of the season no doubt! Hey Jon, that's awesome man. I have yet to go to the track yet. Sounds like it's a lot of fun.
If you think the air is Bad in Edmonton, you should come down here to experience some Texas heat! ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |
