Post Silencer Removal

Could anyone tell me how to remove the silencer from my 1993 GT AOD? Much appreciated.

It just bolts into the inner fender cavity with some studs and nuts. Just remove the nuts and you can pull it out. Make sure you find all of them, there were 3 - 5 of them I did that so long ago, may have had to remove the air filter to get at the other side. It seals to the back side of the filter housing. No big deal at all

You WILL have to remove the air filter. Depending on how you like to work it may be helpful to disconnect the air intake tube from the mass air meter as well and remove these parts as an assembly. As Chevyguy said, remove the 3 or 4 nuts and the silencer will drop into the bottom inside of your fender. Here's where it can get tricky. You will have to manuever the silencer around until you find the best angle for it to come out. Not hard, just time consuming.

Ya, you have to remove the airbox (that has the air filter inside) and then it will just drop down. At that point, grab a flashlight and start playing around, took me a while to actually get it out of the fenderwall....

You won't notice much at all in the way of HP or noise but it does help a little.

It looks somewhat like a funnel. When you get the filter box off you'll see it. Piece of cake.

I remember in last month's MM&FF they removed the silencer and changed from paper to a K&N filter on their project Mark VII and it was good for a tenth in the quarter mile.

Yeah, I don't remember a big change untill I put the K&N in either. But even a few free horses are welcome. Throatier sound though. I had forgotten about wiggling it out of the fender, that did take some head scratching, and my 91 only had a few thousand on the clock at the time, so kinda nervous.

After about 30 minutes of kicking the asphault and the curb, I realized that the silencer was removed by the previous owner. On the advice given here, I got a K&N hiflow filter, and the car definitely feels stronger. Other than these 2 mods my car is totaly stock. Is there anything i can do for performacne gains that is as easy as changing the filter, or at least not too much more difficult?
