camming a 289?
has anyone used a .512" lift cam in a 289 engine? if so what pistons and cylinder heads did you use. i a'm looking to use a Lunati .512" lift cam, but i'm not sure what would work well with it, as far as heads and pistons. thanks for the help.

Need more info!
Thats a pretty big cam for 289, better have some gears and converter. My first 289 had a cam with that same lift. I had 2.80 gears, no converter. It would go 0-60 in first gear, 4 secs to 0-30, 4 secs to 30-60 a real dog out of the hole. Classic mistake.

Whats the duration on the cam? Just curious. Flat top pistons should give you no clearence problems. But with open chambered heads you might not get the compression you need to run that cam. Any Domed piston should have valve reliefs, but check the manufacturers specs. And do a clearence check upon assembly to make sure. You know clay on top of the piston turn the engine by hand, tear it down and see how thinck the clay is. Yeah it's a pain in the butt. It is better thean turning your new motor into a boat anchor! lol
